Cass, Woodland fall at Area 7-AAAAA tourney


Cass volleyball and Woodland volleyball had their 2018 seasons come to an end Thursday at the Area 7-AAAAA tournament.


The Lady Colonels defeated Paulding County 25-16 and 25-17, but then lost to Kell in straight sets 25-12 and 25-17.


That set up an elimination match for Cass against East Paulding that went three sets.


Cass won the opener 25-21, but lost the final two sets 25-10 and 25-20.


The Lady Colonels were led by outstanding play from the senior front line of Blaire Waters, Alexis Ware, and Harmony Carr. Senior Mariya Hernandez also had a great night on the back row. “We return six players to the varsity team next season,” said Cass coach Alan Potter. “With the experience gained this season, we expect to have a great year.”


Woodland fell in a tough, three-set match before losing their finale' in straight sets.


The Lady Cats lost to Villa Rica in three sets, winning the first set 25-23 before losing the next two 25-11 and 25-23.


Woodland then lost to Hiram in an elimination match 25-18 and 27-25.
