Woodland Middle School girls, boys earn state runner-up finishes


The Woodland Middle School girls and boys cross country teams ran to state runner-up finishes Saturday at the Georgia Middle School State Cross Country Championships at Bleckley County Elementary School.


The two second place finishes earned Woodland Middle the combined (both genders) state championship.


Woodland Middle School girls finished runner-up to Loganville Middle Saturday at the two-mile event competing in the Large School division which included 28 teams and 205 runners. Dean Rusk Middle, Renfroe Middle, and Taylor Road Middle rounded out the girls top five.


The Cartersville Middle School girls ran in the Medium School division and placed 16th of 19 teams. That race included 138 runners.

Woodland Middle School boys finished runner-up to Gainesville Middle School in the Large School division at the Georgia Middle School State Cross Country Championship.


The Large School division included 31 schools and 252 runners. Rome Middle School was third, followed by Renfroe Middle and Riverwatch Middle rounding out the top five.


The Cartersville Middle School boys placed sixth of 19 teams and 142 individual runners in the Medium School Boys Championship. Jefferson Middle won the Medium School State Championship followed by West Laurens Middle, Westminster School, Woodward Academy, and St. Martins Episcopal School.
