Woodland girls paced by Trapheagen win region title, Wildcats place second


The Woodland girls won the Region 7-AAAAA Championship Thursday held at Woodland High School and the Woodland boys team finished second.


Those efforts send both the Lady Cats and Wildcats to the Class AAAAA State Championship in Carrollton on Friday, November 2. The Class AAAAA girls championship race will start at 11:15 a.m. preceded by the Class AAAAA boys’ championship race at 10:30 a.m.


The Lady Cats took the Region 7AAAAA title with all five scoring runners finishing in the top five.


The Wildcats were region runner-up to Rome and had five runners finish in the top 18 of 60 runners.


McKenna Trapheagen won the girls’ race in 18:24. She was followed by teammates Angela Cochran (19:16), Carli Clymer (19:29), Baylee Evans (19:59), and Rylee Evans (20:13).


Cheyenne Spinks placed seventh in 20:28 and Erica Boatner was 14th in 21:56.


The East Paulding girls finished in second place, Rome was third, and Hiram placed fourth.


Cass High’s Olivia Flynn was the only Lady Colonels’ runner. Flynn finished 29th of 49 runners in 23:29.


Collin Jones of Carrollton won the boys’ meet in 16:49. He was 0:21 ahead of teammate Joshua Beam. The Trojans finished in third place and Hiram was fourth.


Dylan Stermer placed fourth in the race in 17:18 to lead all Woodland runners. John Shropshire was seventh in 17:28. John Forsyth (16th, 18:27), Patrick Bollwerk (17th, 18:28), and Kobe Cochran (18th, 18:29) helped lead the Wildcats.


Reece Mitchell (31st, 19:03) and Ian Van Order (40th, 19:31) rounded out the Woodland competitors.


The Cass boys placed eighth, led by Prem Patel’s 28th place finish in 18:52. The remainder of the Colonels were Bryce Kresho (37th, 19:17), Craigory Chatman (54th, 21:53), Logan Van Stijn (56th, 22:01), and Brenden Hickman (59th, 23:30).
