Rhadans shutout earns doubleheader split for Chargers

Georgia Highlands College baseball split a doubleheader with 2nd-ranked Walters State CC (Tenn.) Saturday at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson winning the opener 1-0, but dropping the second game, 6-0.

Game 1 featured a complete-game, three-hit shutout from pitcher Dalton Rhadans. The freshman right-hander from North Paulding High School fanned seven with only one walk while blanking the visiting Senators. Blake Brady singled home Parker Orr in the bottom of the fourth inning for the only offense the Chargers would need. Chargers’ starter Stevie Szucs (3.1 IP, 2ER, 4H, 1BB, 2K) was tagged with the loss. Three other pitchers worked for GHC including Anthony Reneo (1.2 IP, 0ER, 1H), Trace Twardoski (1 IP, 1ER, 1H), and Barker (1 IP, 2ER, 3H, 1K).

Seven different Chargers had one hit each. Brady, Orr, and Malik Spratling doubled. Hunter Moody, Willis Kemp, Skylar McPhee, and Bryson Horne had the other safeties.
