BCRD 10U girls earn state tourney berth, 10U boys fall in district title game


The Bartow County Parks and Recreation Department 10U girls basketball all-stars defeated Paulding County Thursday night in a District 5 consolation game to earn a berth in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Class A State Tournament March 1-2. The Bartow 10U girls grabbed a 13-2 lead in the first quarter Thursday night and overpowered Paulding County 32-6. Bartow held leads of 21-4 at halftime and 29-4 after three quarters on their way to the 26-point victory. Kaytlin Arnold led Bartow in scoring with 10 points. Samantha Gough followed with eight. Haley Collum contributed five points. Rihanna Crittenden scored three while Carson Brannon, Nakayla Evans, and Jayda Cothran added two points each.


Bartow 10U girls defeated Dalton last Saturday 33-13 to reach the semifinals, but lost to Rome Monday night 32-23. The win over Paulding County advances the team to the March 1-2 State Tournament at Edwards Park Community Center in Dalton March 1-2.


In other action Thursday night, the Bartow 10U boys all-stars lost in their GRPA District 5 championship game with Smyrna 52-34 at the LakePoint Champions Center. The runner-up finish for Bartow 10U advances the locals to the six-team GRPA Class A State Tournament in Griffin March 1-2. Bartow will play the champion of District 4 in a preliminary game Friday night with the single-elimination championship bracket played on Saturday, March 2 at the Taylor Street Gym.
