Cartersville soccer teams remain unbeaten in region action


Playing at home, Central-Carroll took a 1-0 to the final ten minutes of regulation Monday night but the Cartersville boys soccer team pushed the offense forward and took the game into overtime with a Pedro Ghanem goal in the 72nd minute.


Then late in the overtime, Joel Zazueta curled home the game-winner off the back post and the Hurricanes escaped with a 2-1 region road victory.


It was the first region loss for the Lions (6-4, 3-1). Cartersville (5-3, 3-0) stayed unbeaten in Region 5-AAAA.


LADY CANES 4, CENTRAL-CARROLL 2


Micah Vance scored a hat-trick of goals Monday evening in the Cartersville girls’ 4-2 win a over the Lady Lions. Kendyl Anderson scored the Lady Canes’ opening goal of the game off an assist from Abbey Craig in the 10th minute.


Craig also had an assist on the first goal by Vance in the 25th minute that put Cartersville up 2-0. Linet Chege added an assist on a Vance goal as well.


The Lady Canes (6-2-1, 3-0) and Hurricanes host Northwest Whitfield Friday.
