Colonels shutout by Wolves

Rome pitcher Alden Astin tossed a complete-game two-hitter Wednesday evening and the Wolves blanked Cass 3-0 at LakePoint in a Region 7-AAAAA contest.

Astin needed only 81 pitches, walked two, and struck out seven in his win. Clay Means and Thomas Botts managed the only Cass base hits — both singles.

The Wolves (6-4, 3-2) scored a run in the second inning and added two more in the fourth and managed only five hits themselves. Astin tripled and drove in a run. Brayer Cowan and Caleb Ellard had the other Rome RBIs.

Logan Nelson (6 IP, 3ER, 5H, 2BB, 4K) went the distance on the mound for the Colonels in the loss. Cass (7-6, 3-2) will host Rome in the conclusion of the home-and-home series Friday at 5:55 p.m.
