Woodland girls track & field team wins Dalton Rotary Invitational


Led by strong performances from distance runners, the Woodland girls track & field team won the Dalton Rotary Invitational hosted by Dalton High School Saturday. McKenna Trapheagen (photo) won the 800M run (2:20.10) and the 1600M run (5:00.55) with teammate Carli Clymer (5:17.06) placing second in the 1600M. Rylee Evans (11:49.67) and Angela Cochran (12:00.56) also finished 1-2 in the 3200M run as the Lady Cats finished with 114.5 team points.


The River Ridge girls placed second with 102.2 points, followed by Dalton (98.2), Paulding County (64), and Heritage-Catoosa (48.7) to round out the top five of 13 girls teams. The Lady Canes placed tenth. Host Dalton (101 points) won the 17-team boys event, followed by Paulding County (88.14), Rome (65), Cass (59), and Woodland (49.14) to complete the top five. The Cartersville boys placed eighth.

Cartersville’s London Shaw won the shot put and the discus throw titles. Shaw’s shot put mark was 35 feet. Her discus throw cleared 111 feet, three inches.

In the boys meet, Cass’ Ethan Carter won the 100M dash in 11.164 and Stephen Smith won the pole vault with a mark of 14 feet, 6 inches. Other top ten placers for the Colonels included:

10th - Tajh Dawson - Triple Jump - 36-03 Woodland’s Jeven Reliford won the 400M run (50.91) and John Shropshire captured the 800M run title (2:05.87).
