Cass soccer teams split region games with Paulding County

The Cass High School soccer teams split region games with Paulding County Tuesday night at Cochran Stadium.
The Colonels edged the Patriots 2-1 on goals by Slomi Orozco and Alex Cabanas. Orozco’s opening goal came on a penalty kick. Josh Flores assisted the Cabanas score.
The Cass boys improved their season record to 4-8 and 2-5 in region play.
Earlier, the Lady Colonels dropped a 3-2 decision to the Lady Patriots.
Paulding County led 1-0 when Logan Vermaas scored in the 19th minute to tie the contest off an assist from Meli Reyes. The Lady Patriots scored again in the first half to take a 2-1 lead to the intermission. Cass evened the score again 10 minutes into the second half. Leidi Toribio found the back of the net off a feed from Vermaas, but Paulding County scored the game-winning goal in the 56th minute. The Cass girls are now 5-6-1 for the season with a 3-4 mark in Region 7-AAAAA.
The Lady Colonels host Cedartown in a non-region game Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.
Both Cass teams return to region play at Kell Friday with the girls game scheduled for 5:45 p.m. and the boys to follow.
