Chargers softball sweeps non-conference doubleheader


Georgia Highlands softball swept a non-conference doubleheader Monday at Thomas University JV. The Chargers took the first game 11-4 and completed the sweep with a 9-4 win in Game 2.


Kayla Phillips (7 IP, 3ER, 6H, 4BB, 2K) tossed all seven innings in the first game for her third win of the year. She also completed the doubleheader with five hits and one RBI at the plate.


Haley Robinson (5 IP, 3ER, 10H, 2BB) earned the Game 2 pitching win for the Chargers. Kara Kight (2 IP, 1H) worked the final two innings for her second save of the year.


In addition to Phillips’ big day at the plate, Jazzmyn Shelton completed the doubleheader with four hits and a pair of stolen bases. Mya Adams had three hits that included a double and two RBI. Sydney McDonald also contributed three hits and a pair of RBI.


Seven other Chargers contributed to the Chargers’ offense in the doubleheader. Deyonce Lewis (2 RBI), Emma McDonald (HR, double, 4RBI), Mallory Alford (double, 2RBI), and Alexis Davis (RBI) had two hits each. Sally Fairbank (double, RBI), Kayla Laukka (RBI), and Lexi Palazzo added one hit apiece.


Georgia Highlands (15-13, 6-6) returns to Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association play Wednesday with a doubleheader at South Georgia State CC.
