Chargers pound out 29 hits in doubleheader sweep


Georgia Highlands College baseball cruised to a pair of easy wins Monday night at Emmanuel College JV in Franklin Springs winning 12-3 and 13-2.


Chargers’ pitchers Zach Fordham (3 IP, 2ER, 2H, 4BB, 5K) and Levi Ayers (4 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 4K) combined to limit the Emmanuel JV team to three runs on four hits in the opener while the offense compiled 15 hits.


In the nightcap, GHC pitchers Anthony Reneo (3 IP, 1ER, 2H, 3BB, 5K), Brady Barker (3 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 2BB, 6K), and Skylar McPhee (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2K) limited the host Lions to only two runs on four hits in an 11-run Chargers’ rout.



Bryson Horne had four hits in the doubleheader with a double and two RBI to pace the Chargers' offense. Trace Twardoski contributed three hits including a double, a triple, and three RBI. McPhee totaled three hits including a pair of doubles and one RBI while Austin Foster added a three-hit day with one RBI.


Six other Chargers had two hits in the doubleheader including Keith Lyle who homered in Game 1 with three RBI. Willis Kemp (2 RBI), Lee Kay (two doubles, one RBI), Hunter Moody (RBI), Blake Brady, and Josh Bennett added two hits apiece in the twin-bill.


Georgia Highlands (23-15) plays a home-and-home, two-game set with Wallace State CC-Hanceville Friday at LakePoint and Sunday in Hanceville, AL.
