Colonels lose to Darlington
Cass baseball lost a non-region game Thursday to visiting Darlington, 11-2.
The loss was the eighth straight for the Colonels.
Darlington scored five runs in the first and five more in the third inning to take a 10-2 lead and added a final run in the seventh inning for the nine-run win.
The Colonels’ scored their two runs in the second inning on a pair of singles, an infield error, and a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-2 at the time.
Darlington pitcher Lawson Brown allowed only a pair of runs in six and two-thirds innings on six hits and two walks to earn the win. He recorded two strikeouts.
Jordan Gani had two hits for the Colonels including a double.
Thomas Botts, Trey Scott, Clay Means, and Sam Melton had the Cass base hits. Jayden Smith had an RBI on a sac fly.
Botts (2.2 IP, 10R, 5ER, 7H, 4BB, 3K) started on the mound and suffered the pitching loss. Smith (2.1 IP, 0R, 2BB, 1K), Trey Scott (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 2BB, 4K), and Gani (1 IP, 1K) also pitched for Cass.
Darlington improves to 7-9-1 with their win.
Cass falls to 7-13 on the season and will return to Region 7-AAAAA action Monday when 5th-ranked Kell visits the Cass Athletic Complex.
