Chargers drop non-conference game


The Georgia Highlands College baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Wallace State-Hanceville CC (AL) Friday afternoon at LakePoint, 11-8. The visiting Lions led 3-1 after three innings and extended their lead to 9-1 heading to the sixth inning. The Chargers narrowed the margin to 9-5 in the bottom of the sixth, but Wallace State-Hanceville added two runs in the seventh and then held on for the three-run win. Both teams finished with 14 hits. The Lions used seven different pitchers in their win with starter Jerry Bowman credited with the win.


GHC utilized six arms. Starter Stevie Szucs (4 IP, 6R, 5ER, 8H, 2BB, 1K) received the pitching loss. Brady Barker (1 IP, 3ER, 3H, 0BB, 1K), Ryan Smithson (1 IP, 0R, 1BB, 1K), Brant Brown (0.1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 3H, 1K), Dalton Rhadans (1.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 3K), and Levi Ayers (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2K) also pitched.


Brady hit two home runs and finished with three RBI for the Chargers. Keith Lyle had three hits including two doubles. Bryson Horne had two hits including a double and three RBI. Willis Kemp and Parker Orr contributed two hits and one RBI each. Lavoisier Fisher added one hit for Georgia Highlands.


With the win, Wallace-Hanceville improved to 17-10-1.


Georgia Highlands (23-16) plays at Wallace-Hanceville Sunday afternoon to complete the home-and-home series.
