Chargers sweep conference doubleheader

Georgia Highlands College softball swept a home conference doubleheader from South Georgia State Saturday at Stars Park in Cassville winning 5-1 in the opener and 3-1 in the second game.


In the first game, GHC took a 3-0 lead through two innings and added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The lone run for the visiting Hawks came in the fourth.


In the second game, the Chargers fell behind 1-0 in the top of the fourth but scored their three runs in the bottom half of the inning for the eventual win.

Strong pitching was the order of the day for Georgia Highlands. Kara Kight (7 IP, 1R, 0ER, 7H, 1BB, 2HBP, 2K) picked up her eleventh win of the season for the Chargers in the opener with a complete-game effort. Haley Robinson (7 IP, 1ER, 3H, 0BB, 3K) improved to 4-2 with the second game win in another complete-game performance.


Centerfielder Mya Adams (photo) paced the Chargers with a 4-for-6 day in the two games. She finished with a double, a triple, a sacrifice, three runs scored, and one RBI. Sierrah Gani (2RBI) and Kayla Laukka (RBI) both had a double and two hits on the day. Deyonce Lewis (RBI), Lexi Palazzo (2RBI), Alexis Davis, Emma McDonald, Mallory Alford, and Sydney McDonald (RBI) each added one hit for GHC.


The Chargers (18-14, 9-7) host East Georgia for a Sunday doubleheader.
