Chargers' baseball swept in non-conference series


Wallace State-Hanceville Community College completed a home-and-home sweep of Georgia Highlands baseball Sunday with a 15-4 home win over the Chargers. The Lions won Friday’s game at LakePoint in Emerson, 11-8. In Sunday’s victory, Wallace-Hanceville utilized two big innings for their 11-run win. The Lions plated five runs in the bottom of the first to go ahead 5-1 and stretched with lead to 15-2 with an eight-run fourth inning.


Easton Kirk hit two home runs for WHCC and four Lions’ pitchers — Dalton Hall, Taylor Hayes, Cal Taylor, and Britt Bowling — combined to limit Georgia Highlands to four runs on five hits and six walks. Zach Fordham (3 IP, 7ER, 5H, 5BB, 2K) suffered the pitching loss for the Chargers. Anthony Reneo (1 IP, 8ER, 4H, 3BB, 1K) and Brady Barker (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K) also took the mound in relief for GHC.


Bryson Horne had a two-hit day for Georgia Highlands that included a double and one RBI. Malik Spratling hit a two-run home run. Blake Brady hit a solo shot. Georgia Highlands (23-17) hosts a non-conference doubleheader Monday with Emmanuel College JV before starting a four-game conference series with Andrew College Tuesday in Cuthbert. The series concludes Friday and Saturday with games at LakePoint.
