Tigers, Colonels lose region games
The Adairsville Tigers and the Cass Colonels both lost region contests Tuesday night in games moved to the LakePoint Sporting Community fields in Emerson. Adairsville dropped a 6-3 decision to Haralson County. Cass fell to Class AAAAA 4th-ranked Kell, 9-0.
HARALSON COUNTY 6, ADAIRSVILLE 3
Adairsville matched Haralson County with ten hits but couldn’t overcome the visiting Rebels’ fast start in a 6-3 Region 6-AAA loss Tuesday night at LakePoint in Emerson.
Haralson County scored four runs in the first two innings and added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to build a 6-1 lead. Adairsville threatened with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but came up short in the three-run loss. Lane King earned the pitching win for Haralson County. He scattered nine hits and did not walk a batter in six innings of work. Andru Starling closed out the game for the Rebels in the seventh.
Bryson King had three hits including a double and one RBI to lead the Haralson offense. Tucker Parish and Lane King contributed two hits. Landan Malone drove in two runs with a triple in the first inning.
Starter Elijah Padgett (3.2 IP, 5R, 3ER, 6H, 5BB, 4K) suffered the pitching loss for Adairsville. Jacob Ray (0.2 IP, 1ER, 1H, 2BB), Braden Powell (1.2 IP, 0R, 2H, 1K), and Eli Agnew (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 2K) also pitched for the Tigers. B.J. Roper had two hits, two RBI, and stole a base for Adairsville. Landon Ayers (RBI) and Levi Blackwell also had two hits. Logan Hunt, Evan Henry, Kyler Smith, and Padgett added one hit apiece. The win moves Haralson County to 10-7 on the season and 6-5 in region play.
Adairsville (3-14, 2-9) hosts North Murray Wednesday before traveling to Sonoraville Thursday. Both games are scheduled for a 5:55 p.m. first pitch.
KELL 9, CASS 0
A pair of Kell pitchers combined to shutout Cass and limit the Colonels to six hits in a 9-0 Region 7-AAAAA victory for the 4th-ranked Longhorns Tuesday evening at LakePoint in Emerson. Kell took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and added three runs in the third and fourth innings to build a 7-0 advantage. The Longhorns added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning.
Hal Stelljes (5 IP, 0R, 2H, 2BB, 8K) and Evan Hendricks (2 IP, 0R, 4H, 0BB, 1K) scattered six hits and two walks in the combined shutout.
Cass starting pitcher Jayden Smith (2 IP, 4ER, 4H, 3BB, 1K) took the loss. Trey Scott (3 IP, 5R, 4ER, 2H, 6BB, 1K) and Jordan Gani (1 IP, 0R, 0H) pitched in relief for the Colonels. Six different Longhorns had one hit each. Ben Olson drove in two runs to pace Kell.
Clay Means and Bryson Markley both had doubles for the Colonels. Matt Shook, Sam Melton, Karson Kelley, and Kyle Miller had the other Cass base hits.
Kell improved to 18-4 overall and 10-1 in region play.
Cass (7-14, 3-8) plays at Kell Wednesday at 5:55 p.m.
