Chargers' offense erupts for 21 runs in conference win at ABAC


The Georgia Highlands offense had one of its most productive games Monday night in a 21-8 conference win at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The Chargers trailed 2-1 after three innings and the game was tied 4-4 after four frames, but Georgia Highlands scored seven runs in the top of the fifth to take control. Four more runs in the seventh and another six in the eighth inning put the game away. Three Chargers had four-hit games including Malik Spratling who hit a pair of home runs and drove in four runs. Bryson Horne (double, two RBI) and Lavoisier Fisher (double and two triples, four RBI) also had four hits. Austin Foster had three hits including a double and one RBI. Skylar McPhee contributed two hits including a double, a home run, and four RBI. Hunter Moody had a hit and three RBI. Parker Orr drove in a run with one hit. Blake Brady and Trace Twardoski added one hit each.


Ryan Smithson (1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 1H, 2BB, 2K) picked up the Chargers’ pitching win in relief of starter Ethan Underwood (3.1 IP, 4ER, 6H, 0BB, 1K). Levi Ayers (3.2 IP, 2ER, 2H, 4BB, 3K) closed out the final three and two-thirds innings.


The loss drops ABAC to 11-28 overall and 5-17 in conference games.


Georgia Highlands (26-19, 12-10) hosts West Georgia Tech Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at LakePoint and travels to Gordon College Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
