Cartersville tennis teams advance to Round of 16


The Cartersville High School tennis teams advanced in the Class AAAA state tournament Tuesday evening with the girls and boys taking first round matches over visiting Stephens County at Dellinger Park.


The Lady Canes won 4-0 and the Hurricanes took a 3-0 victory.


The Cartersville girls secured the team victory with wins from Ashley Popham at Line 1 singles, Emily Bush (photo) at Line 2 singles, Chloe Satterfield on the third singles line, and the Line 2 doubles tandem of Mason Cline and Mia Shaw.


The Cartersville boys captured their first round win with a win at Line 2 singles by Luke Kotteman and victories at both doubles lines. Luke Gambill and Nate McDonald paired for the Canes’ Line 1 doubles win while John Blackhall and Jackson Cline won on Line 2. Will Allen (photo), the Canes' Line 1 singles player, was leading when the winning team point was secured and had his match halted.


The Cartersville girls will host Flowery Branch in the next round with the match date to be determined. The Cartersville boys return to the hardcourts right away and will host Marist Wednesday in the Round of 16.
