Woodland girls lose state playoff match at Riverwood


The Woodland girls tennis team was eliminated from the Class AAAAA state tournament Wednesday with a 3-1 loss at Riverwood.


The Lady Cats’ only win came at Line 2 doubles where Abigail Spaulding and Monterya Morrow won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.


The Lady Raiders’ points came at the three singles positions. Woodland’s Breanna Shook lost 6-0, 6-0 at Line 1; Becky Wesley lost at Line 2 6-1, 6-1; and Kayla Gales dropped her Line 3 match 6-4, 6-3. The Line 1 doubles duo of Emma Savage and Eryn Gentry was pulled after splitting two closely contested sets. Riverwood advances to the Round of 16 where the Lady Raiders will host Clarke Central, a 5-0 first round winner over Arabia Mountain.
