Cartersville track & field advances ten athletes to State Sectionals


Cartersville High School’s track and field teams had ten athletes, including three region champions, to advance to the Class AAAA State Sectional Meet from Thursday’s Region 5-AAAA Championship Meet in Tyrone. Top four individuals in each event qualified for the State Sectionals where they will compete against top four placers from three other regions.


Chapel Hill won both the girls and boys region championships Thursday with the girls scoring 168 points and the boys totaling 174. In the girls meet, Sandy Creek (149) was second followed by LaGrange (136.5), Cedartown (50.5), Troup (48), Cartersville (38), and Central-Carroll (28). For the boys, Sandy Creek (158) was runner-up followed by Cedartown (109), Cartersville (80), Central-Carroll (53), LaGrange (31), and Troup (8). Individual region qualifiers advance to one of two Class AAAA Sectionals.


The Region 5-AAAA qualifiers are assigned to Sectional I at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus on Saturday, May 4.
