Lady Canes reach Class AAAA Elite Eight

The Cartersville girls tennis team defeated second round opponent Flowery Branch 3-1 Thursday at Dellinger Park to advance to the Class AAAA quarterfinals. The Lady Canes picked up a win from Emily Bush at Line 2 singles and won both doubles lines to secure the team victory. Lydia Wiedetz and Alice Terry closed out the match with their win at Line 1 doubles after Mia Shaw and Mason Cline took care of business at Line 2 doubles. Cartersville’s Line 1 singles stalwart, Ashley Popham (photo), was up a set and leading 4-1 in the second set when her match was pulled.

The lone Flowery Branch win came at Line 3 singles.

The Lady Canes will now face the Eastside/Richmond Academy winner next week in the Elite Eight.
