Seigler assigned to join Charleston RiverDogs at Rome Monday


Bartow Sports Zone spoke briefly with Anthony Seigler Sunday morning and confirmed the former Cartersville High School catcher will be playing with the Charleston RiverDogs of the Class A South Atlantic League Monday night when they play at the Rome Braves.


Charleston plays a three-game series at Rome Monday through Wednesday. The games Monday and Tuesday night are set for 7 p.m. Wednesday’s game is a 1 p.m. start. Seigler, who was drafted in the first round one year ago by the New York Yankees, has been working in extended Spring Training this April and May for the Yankees’ organization in Tampa. The new RiverDogs’ catcher joins a team that is currently in first place in the SAL Southern Division with a 34-28 record in the first half. Charleston leads the Lexington Legends by 1-1/2 games with Rome in fifth place at 7-1/2 games back. The SAL first half schedule finishes up next Sunday (August 16). The second half league schedule runs June 20 through September 2 with playoffs continuing in early September. Seigler, who will turn 20 on June 20, played 24 games in 2018 — twelve each with the Gulf Coast League Yankees West and Rookie League Pulaski Yankees. He hit .266 with one home run and nine RBI. As a professional, Seigler has a .379 on-base percentage, .342 slugging percentage, and an OPS of .721 in 79 official at-bats.
