Cartersville LL 11U holds off Martinez-Evans for win at state tourney


Cartersville Little League 11U survived a late threat from Martinez-Evans and stayed alive in the losers’ bracket of the Georgia Little League 11U State Tournament in Savannah with an 8-7 win Sunday afternoon. Cartersville led 6-1 through three innings and had an 8-3 lead going to the final frame when Martinez-Evans scored four runs and had the potential tying run on third base before Cartersville closed out the win.

Logan Buchanan (5 IP, 4ER, 4H, 1BB, 4K) picked up the pitching win for Cartersville with Bodie Brumlow (1 IP, 3R, 0ER, 2H, 1BB) closing out the final inning. Lyle Woody (RBI) and Brayden Channell both had two hits including one double each for Cartersville. Buchanan drove in two runs with one hit. Bear McWhorter had a double and one RBI. Brumlow, Kamdyn Woods, and Trenton Harris had the other Cartersville hits. Next for Cartersville Little League 11U is another elimination game Monday morning at 10 a.m. against East Marietta. The tournament continues through Friday.
