Video: Let's Meet the Colonels -- Time to shine

We conclude our 2019 preseason video series with a visit with the Cass Colonels.

Following a summer of encouraging work, participation, and camps, Cass Head Coach Bobby Hughes and his staff are excited about the growth and development they have seen in the off-season. "We took kids to three different padded camps this summer," noted Hughes. "It has probably been the best summer we've had since I took over here and we are definitely excited to witness the performances. Our effort has been outstanding -- both on the field and in the weight room. We have a lot to be excited about." "I think the padded camps have really helped us with conditioning too. Our kids have gone hard and they prefer it to simply running sprints," added Hughes. (story continues below)

Cass will look to recover from back-to-back seasons where the Colonels picked up only one win, defeating Adairsville in their season opener last year. "I credit this group of seniors with the unity and standard they have already established for the season," said Hughes. "We were really close to turning a corner last year, but we needed a key play or two to go our way in crucial moments. These guys understand that now. A lot of these seniors were on the field in those close games. Now we just have to get over the hump. They've done a lot to move in that direction by holding each other more accountable," concluded Hughes.

Cass will scrimmage at Pepperell on Friday, August 16 and then will have two weeks to prepare for their official season opener at Adairsville on August 30. NOTE: Videos for Adairsville, Cartersville, and Woodland are linked in the related stories below or may be found on the news page.
