Lady Tigers suffer opening night loss at Allatoona
The home-standing Allatoona Lady Bucs pounded out 13 hits and scored in four of five frames to defeat Adairsville softball in their regular season opener Wednesday night in Cobb County. Allatoona raced to an 8-0 lead through two innings and limited the Lady Tigers to a pair of runs in the third and one more in the fifth inning. Adairsville managed four hits in the contest.
Buccaneers’ pitcher Taylyn Fontenot (5 IP, 3ER, 4H, 3BB, 1K) went the distance in the circle for Allatoona to earn the win. Taylor Rhoades (4.1 IP, 11R, 7ER, 13H, 1BB, 6K) was the losing pitcher for Adairsville. Rylee Reeves (homerun) and Payton O’Connor (two doubles) combined for six hits and three RBI to pace the Bucs offense.
Sadye Johnson hit a two-run home run for Adairsville in the third inning to narrow the margin to 8-2 at the time. Alexa Varner contributed a double. Victoria O’Neal had a single and one RBI. Chloe Souders had the other Lady Tigers’ base hit.
Allatoona improved to 2-0 on the season.
Adairsville (0-1) plays at Lafayette Thursday at 6 p.m.
