Cartersville, Woodland, and Cass earn wins




All three local high school softball teams picked up victories Monday night. Cartersville gained a non-region win at home over Darlington. Woodland and Cass collected region wins at home.

 

CARTERSVILLE 10, DARLINGTON 2


Cartersville softball cruised to a 10-2 win Monday over visiting Darlington behind the combined, one-hit pitching of McKinley Chada and Ava Perkins. Chada tossed four innings allowing a pair of unearned runs on one hit and three walks. She fanned five. Perkins struck out the side in the fifth inning to close out the win.


Hope Short had two hits and two RBI. Cio Seigler had two hits including a solo home run. Campbell Rogers had a triple and three RBI. AnnaKate McElhaney contributed a hit and one RBI. Madison Lingerfelt added one RBI.


With the loss, Darlington remains winless on the season at 0-12.


Cartersville (12-11, 6-6) wraps up its regular season slate Wednesday at Adairsville.





WOODLAND 14, ROME 2


The Lady Cats overpowered visiting Rome Monday night 14-2 in four innings in a Region 7-AAAAA contest. Woodland scored eight times in the first inning to take an 8-1 lead. Rome posted another run in the third inning and the Lady Cats closed out the contest with a six-run fourth inning. Brianna Hill doubled twice and drove in two runs. Bella Carnes had an inside-the-park, two run home run. Kendyl Hardin doubled with two RBI. Kailey Baker contributed a hit and two RBI. Allyssa Motes (RBI), Hannah Miller (RBI), and Ansley Evans added one hit apiece.


Hope Schultz (4 IP, 2ER, 4H, 1BB) picked up the pitching win for Woodland.


The loss drops Rome to 2-19 overall and 1-14 in region play.


Woodland (13-10, 10-4) travels to Hiram Tuesday and hosts Paulding County Thursday. Both region games are 5:55 p.m. starts.





CASS 4, PAULDING COUNTY 1


Lady Colonels’ pitcher Kylee Hembree scattered six hits and four walks Monday night while limiting visiting Paulding County to a single run in a 4-1 Region 7-AAAAA victory. Cass scored single runs in the second and third innings to hold a 2-0 lead through four innings. The Lady Patriots scored their run in the fifth inning and Cass added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth for the 4-1 final score.


Rachael Lee (double, RBI) and Haley Smith had two hits each for Cass. Eryn Lee drove in a run with a double. Alexis Woods also contributed a double to the offensive attack. Kaila Carson and Eryn Lee both stole a base.


The loss drops Paulding County to 6-15 overall and 4-10 in region action.


Cass (11-13, 6-8) closes out the region regular season against the top two teams in the region standings. The Lady Colonels travel to East Paulding Tuesday and hosts Carrollton for senior night Thursday. Both games are 5:55 p.m. starts.
