Lady Tigers lose region tourney opener


The Adairsville softball team lost its opening round game in the Region 6-AAA double-elimination tournament Saturday to Haralson County, 10-0. The tournament is being played at the Calhoun Recreation Department. Haralson County scored seven runs in the top of the fifth to break open an otherwise close game. The fifth inning outburst ended the game in five innings after Haralson County pitcher, Morgan Martin, retired Adairsville in order in the bottom of the frame.


The Rebels scored two runs in the first inning and one in the third inning to hold a 3-0 lead heading into the fifth.


Martin, who also homered twice for the Rebels, limited the Lady Tigers to only three hits. She struck out two. Adairsville starting pitcher Victoria O’Neal (4.2 IP, 4R, 3ER, 6H, 3BB, 4K) was tagged with the loss. Taylor Rhoades (0.1 IP, 6ER, 6H) retired the final out in the fifth inning.


Alexa Varner, Chloe Souders, and Megan Gregory had the three Adairsville base hits.


Haralson County lost to Sonoraville 6-0 in the second round later Saturday to fall into Monday’s elimination round. Adairsville (6-15) will also play in the elimination round Monday at 4 p.m. at the Calhoun Recreation Department.
