Cartersville youth teams participate in Calhoun Pokey Bowl

A pair of Cartersville Recreation Department youth football teams and one from the Bartow County Recreation Department played in the Calhoun Rec Department's opening round of Pokey Bowl games this past Saturday.

Tyon Coe scored on touchdown runs of 62 and 74 yards and kicked four PATs for Hurricanes (Nunn). Jaylon Watkins had a 34 yard touchdown run and Kaleb Holton scored with an 18 yard dash. Sam Bailey, Coe, and Watkins were the top Cartersville defenders. For Calhoun, Jacob Hood scored three touchdowns on runs of 2, 4, and 18 yards. He also had a pair of PAT runs. Millsap was identified as the top defender for the Yellow Jackets. NOTE: This game was part of the Pokey Bowl tournament hosted by the Calhoun Recreation Department. Hurricanes (Nunn) advanced to the finals to play Hurricanes (Cagle) Saturday in the Calhoun High School stadium.

ROCKMART YELLOW JACKETS 25, CARTERSVILLE HURRICANES (Ezell) 0 Rockmart’s Devante Gardner caught two touchdown passes, scored on a 40 yard run, and had a pick-six interception return of 61 yards. The two scoring passes were thrown by Hagen Sharp from 44 and 46 yards. Cartersville’s Asa Mitcham and Rhys Neal were selected as the Hurricanes (Ezell) top defenders. CASS COLONELS 27, PEPPERELL DRAGONS 14

Cass QB Paul Lanier had a pair of touchdown passes to Caden Aleman from 52 and 35 yards. Kyron McClendon picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown and Lanier added a pair of PATs. The offensive line had an outstanding game to give Lanier time in the pocket to make plays. Derris Reece and Lorenzo Cotton made two tackles each on defense.

Luke Parker ran for a six yard touchdown and connected with Myles Mitchell for a 22-yard touchdown pass as Hurricanes (Parker) defeated Dalton 27-0. Mitchell added a 12 yard touchdown run and JaCaiden Leonard returned a punt 44 yards for a touchdown. Mitchell contributed two PAT runs and Parker completed a PAT pass to Thomas Smith. Myles Mitchell had several fourth down stops for the Cartersville defense. Adam Reed recovered a pair of Dalton fumbles. Note; Cartersville Hurricanes (Parker) plays in the Pokey Bowl Championship game Saturday at Calhoun High School.
