Cass boys drop opener at North Forsyth

The Cass boys basketball team suffered a season opening loss Thursday night at Class 7A North Forsyth, 51-45. The host Raiders led 13-8 after one quarter and extended their lead to 34-16 at halftime. Cass continued to narrow the margin in the second half, but came up six points short. Bennett Helms led North Forsyth with 20 points.

“We played hard in the second half,” said Colonels head coach Sean Glaze. “After trailing by 18 at halftime, we cut their lead to five points with three minutes remaining, but missed two layups and a three on the next three possessions. We lacked energy in the first half and dug a hole too deep. I think we learned a lot though.”

Jordan Ford and Braxton Benham paced the Colonels with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Andrew Glaze scored six. Zaylan Chaney finished with five points. Zay Jackson and Jaquan Heard added two each.

Cass returns to action Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at LakePoint in Emerson. The Colonels will play North Cobb Christian in the first of three boys games played in the LakePoint Tip Off.
