Colonels take down host Indians at Chattooga Thanksgiving Classic


The Cass Colonels broke open a close game with a big third quarter Saturday night to defeat the host Indians at the Chattooga Thanksgiving Classic in Summerville, 71-54.


The game was tied after one quarter 14-14 and Cass held a slim 31-30 lead at halftime. The Colonels separated in the third period by outscoring Chattooga 25-5 to lead 56-35 heading into the final eight minutes.


“It was a good win tonight,” said Cass head coach Sean Glaze. “We’re still missing a couple of guys, but we played hard and had nine different guys in the scoring column.”


Braxton Benham, Jordan Ford, and C.J. Pipkin each reached double figures for Cass with 16, 13, and 10 points, respectively. Jaquan Heard followed with nine. Andrew Glaze chipped in with eight points. Ethan McIntyre finished with five. Zaylan Chaney and Trey Scott scored four points each. Zay Jackson added one point.


Chattooga (1-1) was led by Malachi Jackson with 16 points.


Cass (3-2) plays a third game in the Thanksgiving Classic Monday at 5:30 p.m. against Fort Payne, Alabama. Cass defeated Northwest Whitfield in the Classic Thursday night.
