Adairsville teams sweep to victories at Southeast Whitfield


The Adairsville girls and boys basketball teams made it a clean sweep Saturday at Southeast Whitfield with the Lady Tigers winning 49-43 and the Tigers taking a 63-36 decision in Dalton.


The Lady Tigers earned their first win of the season in a battle that stayed close throughout. Adairsville trailed 11-10 after one quarter, but led 26-22 at halftime and 37-31 after three quarters before holding on for their six-point win.


Lisette Gomez led the Lady Raiders (0-6) with 13 points. Alexa Varner had a game-high 14 points for the Lady Tigers. She was followed by Yatorrean Hale with nine; Ji’Leyah Mitchell and Haley Stiles with eight each; Autumn Henderson with four; Makayal Wade, Lexie Childers, and Kaitlynn Stiles with two points each.


The Adairsville girls improved to 1-2 on the season.




ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 63, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 36


The Tigers led 16-8 after one quarter, 31-17 at halftime, and 48-25 through three quarters on their way to a 27-point win. Jaxon Welchel and Gaven Crunkleton paced Adairsville in the scoring column with 13 and 11 points, respectively. T.J. Printup and Will Longmore followed with nine each. Malachi Gardner chipped in with six points. Savaun Henderson scored five. Jacob Silvers contributed four points while Connor Crunkleton, Johnathan Jarrett, and Courtney Slocum added two points apiece.


Cal Rich led Southeast Whitfield with 14 points. C.J. Watkins scored 10 for the Raiders.


Southeast remained winless on the season with an 0-5 mark.


Adairsville evened its season mark at 1-1.


Both Adairsville teams host Ringgold Tuesday night with the girls’ tip at 6 p.m. The Lady Tigers and Tigers then travel to North Murray Friday and Temple on Saturday.
