Adairsville boys finish fourth at 6AAA tourney
The Adairsville boys basketball team will represent Region 6-AAA as the league’s No. 4-seed next weekend after falling to Calhoun Monday night at North Murray in the region tournament’s third place game, 59-49.
The Tigers led 14-8 after the opening eight minutes and were tied 20-20 at halftime, but Calhoun surged ahead in the third quarter to take a 44-34 lead and held on down the stretch for a 10-point win.
Gage Maffetone, Dylan Faulkner, and Chris Lewis led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 21, 19, and 10 points, respectively.
Tucker Deams led Adairsville with a game-high 25 points. Malachi Gardner scored seven. Savaun Henderson and Jaxon Welchel contributed five each. T.J. Printup tossed in four. William Longmire scored two points and Courtney Slocum added one for the Tigers.
Calhoun (17-10) advances as the Region 6-AAA No. 3-seed and will play at Franklin County in the first round of the state tournament. Adairsville (12-16) will travel to Region 8-AAA champion Jefferson for a first round game this weekend. (Day/time to be decided). Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (23-4) won the boys region championship game Monday night by defeating host North Murray, 58-47. LFO will host Hart County in the first round of the state tournament. North Murray (21-6) will entertain Monroe Area.
