Adairsville boys tennis team earns state tourney berth
The Adairsville boys’ tennis team earned a berth in the Class AAA state tournament by placing fourth at the Region 6-AAA Championship Tournament.
The Tigers defeated Gordon Lee 3-2 in the opening round to reach the semifinals before falling to Bremen 3-0.
In the third place match, Adairsville fell to Bremen 3-0.
Against Gordon Lee, Camden Teems and Michael Spinks won at Line 2 and Line 3 singles. Braden Mathis and Jack Baxter won at Line 1 doubles to secure the team’s third point.
Against Bremen, Spinks won his first set and was leading in the second set when the Blue Devils secured their decisive third team point.
In the loss to Coahulla Creek, Braden Potter was leading in the third set at Line 1 singles and Spinks was up a set and leading in the second set at Line 3 singles when the Colts secured both doubles and Line 2 singles to win the match.
The Tigers open the state playoffs Tuesday against Sandy Creek. The match will be conducted at Northgate High School in Newnan.
