Adairsville, Cartersville collect region wins

The Cartersville and Adairsville softball teams both picked up region wins Wednesday evening on the road. Cartersville defeated Hiram 12-2 while Adairsville blanked North Murray, 9-0.

CARTERSVILLE 12, HIRAM 2

Cartersville softball used an eight-run third inning Wednesday night to race past host Hiram 12-2 in a Region 7-AAAAA game.

The Lady Canes had five hits and took advantage of two Hornets’ errors in the inning to take an 8-0 lead.

Ava Perkins had three hits including a double and one RBI to pace the Cartersville offensive attack. Mikey Lewis followed with two hits and two RBIs. McKinley Chada and Amelia Elrod both finished with two hits and one RBI each. Jordan Bishop drove in two runs with one hit. Erin McCrary had one hit and one RBI. Campbell Rogers added a hit and Reese Dumas was credited with one RBI.

Kiley Arnold collected the pitching win for the Hurricanes with a five inning performance. She alowed a pair of earned runs on eight hits and two walks while fanning six.

The loss drops Hiram to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in region play.

Cartersville (6-7, 2-4) will host a doubleheader with Hiram Thursday and plays Woodland in an 11 a.m. opening round game of the Bartow County Tournament Saturday at the Cass Athletic Complex.

ADAIRSVILLE 9, NORTH MURRAY 0

Adairsville pitchers Chelsea Bates and Jordan Clay combined for a four-hit shutout Wednesday night as the Lady Tigers won at North Murray, 9-0.

Bates struck out four while scattering three hits and a walk in the first three innings. Clay gave up just one hit over the final two frames.

Adairsville scored single runs in the first and second innings, then added seven more in the fourth inning to put the Mountaineers away.

Riley Mounger (2 RBIs), Jenna Young (2 RBIs), Alissa Winter (RBI), and Taylor Evans had two hits each for the Tigers. Makayla Wade, Halle Chasen (RBI), and Kelsey Gleason (RBI) rounded out the Adairsville 11-hit attack.

The loss dropped North Murray to 5-10-1 on the season and 1-8 in Region 6-AAA.

Adairsville (5-6, 3-4) opens the Bartow County Tournament Saturday at Cass against the host Lady Colonels at 9 a.m.
