Adairsville girls, Cass boys earn region wins

The Adairsville girls and Cass boys soccer teams collected region wins Monday night. In a battle of Lady Tigers teams, Adairsville outlasted visiting Ringgold 5-4.
The Adairsville boys were also in a tight matchup, but Ringgold came away with a shootout win.
At Cass, the Colonels scored early and held on to defeat visiting Hiram 1-0 while the Lady Colonels lost 4-2 to the Lady Hornets.
ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 5, RINGGOLD 4
Lizzie LeMay scored four goals — two in each half — to help lead the Adairsville Lady Tigers to a 5-4 Region 6-AAA win at home Monday night over the Ringgold Tigers.
Ringgold scored in the 1st and 13th minutes to take an early 2-0 lead, but a pair of LeMay goals got Adairsville back in the game by the intermission.
Gabi Becerra assisted on the first goal in the 18th minute to make the score 2-1. Elle Causby had the assist on the first half equalizer in the 24th minute.
The Adairsville girls gained their first lead of the night in the 44th minute when Alivia Joslin scored unassisted. The ball rattled around in the box and Joslin took advantage of a deflection.
One minute later, the hosts took a 4-2 lead when Joslin fed LeMay for her third goal of the night.
Ringgold cut the Adairsville lead to 4-3 in the 47th minute but LeMay scored an insurance goal in the 77th minute to once again build a two-goal cushion. Her 50-yard run sprinted by the Ringgold defense.
Ringgold added a late goal with about two minutes remaining in the game to make it 5-4 but Adairsville held off the visitors the rest of the way.
The coaching staff credited Maddie Gossett for her outstanding defensive play and ability to distribute from her position.
The Adairsville girls (8-3, 3-0) play a non-region match at Bremen Friday night.
RINGGOLD 4, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 3 (shootout)
The visiting Ringgold boys led 3-1 at the intermission Monday night, but Adairsville rallied for a pair of goals in the second half to send the game to overtime.
Following a pair of scoreless overtime periods, Ringgold captured the region win in a shootout.
Ringgold improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in Region 6-AAA.
Adairsville (5-6, 2-1) steps out of region play Friday night with a visit to Bremen.
CASS BOYS 1, HIRAM 0
The Cass boys controlled play most of the night but had a difficult time finishing scoring chances.
Camden Hillhouse scored the game’s only goal in the 7th minute off an assist from Christian Villela.
The Colonels improved to 5-6 on the season and 1-0 in Region 7-5A. They return to action next Monday, March 20 at Dalton.
HIRAM 4, CASS GIRLS 2
The Cass girls dropped their Region 7-5A opener to visiting Hiram Monday night, 4-2.
The Lady Colonels fall to 2-9 on the season and 0-1 in region play.
They play at Cartersville Wednesday, March 22.
