Adairsville girls, Cass boys win Tuesday soccer tilts

The Adairsville and Cass soccer teams split games Tuesday night at Cochran Stadium with the Lady Tigers winning a hard fought 1-0 decision and the Colonels rolling to a 10-0 win.
Megan Hardin scored in the 30th minute with an assist from Cat Wheeler for the only net finder in the girls game. Wheeler tapped the ball around the goalkeeper and Hardin finished off the goal.
Adairsville keeper Annie McCormick was credited with a critical stop to keep the Lady Tigers ahead. She deflected a high ball to hit the cross bar and ultimately made the save.
The Adairsville girls improved to 11-1 for the season and will return to Region 6-AAA play Thursday at home against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.
The loss drops the Lady Colonels to 5-8 on the season. The Lady Colonels will host Woodland Friday at 5 p.m. in a game likely to decide the final state playoff spot from Region 7-AAAAA.
CASS BOYS 10, ADAIRSVILLE 0
Kaleb Speights scored four goals and had two assists on goals to power the Cass Colonels past visiting Adairsville Tuesday night in non-region action.
Braxton Benham and Christian Viella had two goals and two assists each. Alfred Chege scored a goal and assisted on two more. Omar Garcia also scored a goal and added one assist.
The Cass boys improved to 8-5 for the season and will host Woodland Friday night at 7 p.m. in a key Region 7-AAAAA game determining state playoff seeding.
