Adairsville girls dominate Woodland

In a state playoff tune-up match for both teams, the Adairsville girls’ soccer team built a big early lead Thursday and cruised to an 8-1 home victory over Woodland.


The Lady Tigers led 6-0 after the opening 40 minutes and outscored the Lady Cats 2-1 in the second half.


Ella Edwards scored four goals for the Tigers — two on penalty kicks — and had two assists. Alivia Joslin scored two goals. Sam Gough and Alexa Damer finished with one goal and one assist. Carly Edwards and Maddie Gossett added one assist. Woodland's second-half goal was scored by Maddie Weightman off an assist from Libby Morgan.


Adairsville (13-3) will host Dawson County next Tuesday in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs.


Woodland (10-3) travels to Greater Atlanta Christian on Tuesday for a first-round match in the Class 5A playoffs.



ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 5, LAFAYETTE 2


The Adairsville boys will be the No. 3 seed from Region 6-AAA in the Class 3A state playoffs following the Tigers' 5-2 win at home Thursday night over LaFayette. Adairsville (6-6-2) will be on the road next Wednesday in the state playoffs at the No. 2 seed from Region 7-AAA.


WOODLAND BOYS AT NORTH PAULDING The Woodland boys lost a non-region match Thursday night at North Paulding, 3-1. The Wolfpack (9-5-3) scored all three goals in the first half to lead 3-0 at the intermission. Woodland (10-5) is the No. 4 seed from Region 7-5A and will play at Chattahoochee, the Region 6-5A champion, in the first round of the state playoffs next Wednesday.
