Adairsville softball falls in season opener

The Adairsville Tigers softball team outhit host LaFayette eight to five on Monday evening, but came up short in their season-opening game, 5-4.


Adairsville held an early 1-0 lead, but the Ramblers scored three times in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead for good.  The Tigers posted a run in the fourth, narrowing the margin to 3-2, but LaFayette answered with two runs in the sixth for a 5-2 advantage.  Adairsville scored two runs in the top of the seventh and had a potential tying run on third base, but failed to equalize.


Chloe Hill suffered the pitching loss for Adairsville. She went all six innings in the circle and allowed five unearned runs on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.


Hill led the Tigers’ offense with three hits and two RBI. Lily Brookshire finished with two hits and two RBI. Ansley Powell (double), Hynleigh Statham, and Madison Brookshire each added one hit.


Adairsville (0-1) hosts Paulding County on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and travels to Kennesaw Mountain on Thursday for a 6 p.m. start.
