Adairsville softball loses high scoring contest


The Adairsville softball team lost a back-and-forth, high-scoring Region 6-AAA matchup Wednesday night at Murray County, 14-13.

The Tigers led 8-2 through 3-1/2 innings, but the host Indians came back with a dozen runs over their last four offensive frames, including a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.

The top five batters in the Murray County order — Brooklyn Gonzalez, Nicole Martin, Alyssa Usrey, Natalie O’Neal, and Kylie Usrey — combined for nine hits and 10 RBIs for the Indians. O’Neal had the walk-off, game winner in the final inning. Kelsey Gleason had three hits for Adairsville. McKenzie Pullum finished with a triple, double, and three RBIs. Jenna Young had two hits, including a home run and three RBIs. Alissa Winters had two hits and one RBI. Brie Patterson contributed a pair of hits while Chelsea Bates added a hit and two RBIs.

Murray County improved to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in region play.

Adairsville (4-5, 2-3) returns to action next Wednesday at North Murray.
