Adairsville starts region slate with dominating win

Adairsville quarterback Jonathan Gough tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Grayson Belcher and ran for another score as the Tigers dominated host Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 42-20 Friday night in both teams’ Region 6-AAA opener.


Chris Roper had an 81-yard first quarter touchdown run. Ethan Blome scored the Tigers’ first touchdown on a 1-yard run and Caden Copeland added a 9-yard scoring run in the second quarter.


Adairsville led 28-0 when LFO scored the Warriors’ initial touchdown. Quarterback Dylan Blankenship finished off a 9-play, 65-yard drive with a 2-yard run to make the score 28-7.


The Tigers answered quickly, however, driving 80 yards for a 35-7 halftime lead. The scoring play was a 20-yard pass from Gough to Belcher. It was their second connection for a touchdown on the night. The duo also combined for a 79-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the second quarter.


Cooper Souders was true on all six Adairsville PATs.


Trailing 42-7 in a continuous clock fourth quarter, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe added a pair of touchdown passes from Karian Keefe to Brent Bowman. The first TD pass was a 24-yarder. The second was a 10-yarder following an Adairsville turnover at their own 10 yard line. Bryson Sullivan made two-of-three PAT attempts for the Warriors.


With the loss, LFO slips to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in Region 6-AAA.


Adairsville (3-1, 1-0) hosts a key region matchup with Ringgold next Friday night in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
