Adairsville teams drop region games at home; Excel loses at North Cobb Christian
The Adairsville High basketball teams dropped Region 6-AAA games to visiting Murray County Friday night while the Excel Eagles lost on the road at North Cobb Christian.
MURRAY COUNTY 68, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 63
The Adairsville boys briefly held a lead late in the game Friday night, but couldn’t hold on in a 68-63 home loss to Murray County.
The visiting Indians held leads of 26-15 at the end of the first quarter; 40-31 at halftime; and 51-47 through three quarters.
Haden Newport led Murray County with 24 points. Carson Weaver and Lincoln Paryear followed with 18 and 11 points, respectively.
T.J. Printup, Jr. and Tucker Deams had 15 points each for the Tigers. Zac Postell contributed 11 and Hayden Poarch added nine for Adairsville.
With their win, Murray County improves to 13-5 overall and 9-3 in Region 6-AAA.
Adairsville (9-8, 4-7) is currently sixth in the region and will host a non-region matchup with Gilmer Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
MURRAY COUNTY 69, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 48
Mattie Nuckolls scored 27 points and Ella Dotson added 14 as visiting Murray County won 69-48 Friday night at Adairsville.
Murray County (7-6, 5-6 in Region 6-AAA) led by ten points at halftime and maintained a 46-36 advantage at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Indians then pulled away in the final period for a 21-point region win.
Lexie Childers paced Adairsville with 15 points. Autumn Henderson, Haley Stiles, and Ya’Torrean Hale finished with eight points apiece for the Lady Tigers.
Adairsville (5-15, 2-10) hosts Gilmer Saturday at 4 p.m.
NORTH COBB CHRISTIAN 79, EXCEL CHRISTIAN BOYS 56
The Excel Eagles matched host North Cobb Christian in the first half and went to the intermission tied 30-all Friday night in Acworth, but were outscored 30-16 in the second period in a 79-56 Region 7-A-Private loss. North Cobb Christian, led by Tre Chatman’s 19 point effort, built a 60-46 lead by the end of the third quarter and finished off the 23-point win in the final stanza. Excel had four players reach double figure scoring. Elijah Payne and Kalil Holley scored 12 points each. Blake Bailey and Rashard Doyal finished with 11 points apiece.
Jack Hewett added 17 points for North Cobb Christian (8-6, 2-3) and Christian Hernandez chipped in with 10.
ECA (7-11, 0-5) plays at Walker Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and will host the Wolverines Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
