Adairsville teams fall at Calhoun, Excel drops non-region game at Coosa




The Adairsville girls and boys basketball teams lost Region 6-AAA games Saturday evening at Calhoun while the Excel Christian Academy boys suffered a non-region loss at Coosa.



 


COOSA 77, EXCEL BOYS 60


The Excel Christian boys had a trio of players reach double-digits, but the Eagles lost at Coosa, 77-60.

Rayshawn Womack scored 27 while Jakaden Barkley and Brendan Quillin posted 16 and 10, respectively for ECA. Kalil Holley added seven points in the losing cause. Keshawn Kindred led Coosa with 24 points. Excel slips to 2-5 overall. Coosa improved to 4-3. ECA travels to Atlanta to take on The Weber School Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and will play at Stratford Academy Saturday at 3 p.m. CALHOUN 59, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 25 The Calhoun girls led 18-6 after one quarter, 33-16 at halftime, and 52-18 through three quarters as the Lady Jackets defeated visiting Adairsville Saturday night, 59-25. Britiya Curtis and Anna George paced Calhoun (4-4, 3-1 Region 6-AAA) with 20 and 13 points, respectively. Haley Stiles led the Lady Tigers with seven points. Yatorrean Hale and Mia Scott followed with five and four points. Adairsville (2-7, 0-5) entertains Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Tuesday night at 6 p.m. and will host Southeast Whitfield next Saturday at 3 p.m. CALHOUN 76, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 59 Caleb Boone paced Calhoun with 23 points Saturday night as the Yellow Jackets defeated visiting Adairsville 76-59. Tononcito Martha scored 20 for Calhoun and Gage Maffetone contributed 12 points in the win. The Yellow Jackets led 17-8 after one quarter, 41-24 at halftime, and 56-39 through three quarters on their way to a 17-point Region 6-AAA win. Adairsville was led by 13 points by T.J. Printup. Jaxon Welchel scored 12, Savaun Henderson 10, and Malachi Gardner eight points for the Tigers. Calhoun improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in region play. Adairsville dropped to 3-5 for the season and 2-3 in 6-AAA. The Tigers will host Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. and will step out of league play next Saturday to entertain Southeast Whitfield.
