Athletes Beyond Bartow: Brumlow 7th at Dogwood Invitational

Former Cartersville High standout golfer and current University of Georgia men's team member, Buck Brumlow, made a strong showing at The Dogwood Invitational in Atlanta this past week. His performance highlights this week's edition of 'Athletes Beyond Bartow' which also includes updates on Jason Bohn's PGA Champions Tour rookie season and local MiLB players Mason Barnett and Anthony Seigler.



Amateur Golf


BUCK BRUMLOW — University of Georgia (Jr., Cartersville HS) … completed rounds of 66-68-73-70 (11-under-par) this past Thursday through Saturday and tied for seventh at the 2023 Dogwood Invitational. He finished 17th in the same event last year. The prestigious amateur tournament featured some of the top collegiate golfers in the country at the 6,947-yard, par-72 Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta. Mississippi State University’s Hunter Logan won the tournament with a 20-under-par finish. Brumlow, currently ranked 242nd in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, will likely rise in the new standings to be released later this week.



PGA Champions Tour


JASON BOHN — PGA Champions Tour; Acworth resident; Cartersville CC member … fired a final round 67 (5-under-par) and climbed 29 spots on the leaderboard to finish T17 at the 54-hole American Family Insurance Championship at University Ridge GC in Madison, Wisconsin earning just under $34,000. Steve Stricker won the senior tour event at 18-under-par. Bohn also had rounds of 73 and 70 to complete the tournament at 6-under-par. He has now played in six Champions Tour events since turning 50 in April and ranks 72nd in the 2023 Charles Schwab Cup standings. Up next on the Champions Tour is the Dicks Sporting Goods Open June 23-25 at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, New York.



MiLB


MASON BARNETT — Quad Cities River Bandits (KC Royals High A affiliate; 2nd-yr. pro; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … the right-hand pitcher made a four-inning start at home last Wednesday and was the pitcher of record in a 12-3 loss to the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Barnett allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks. He struck out five. The 22-year-old is now 1-2 in nine starts (39-⅔ innings) with a 4.54 ERA and 52 strikeouts. Quad Cities finished the week with just one win in a six-game series with Fort Wayne. The River Bandits (28-29) slipped to third place in the Midwest League’s West Division and will play a six-game series Tuesday through Sunday at the Beloit Sky Carp.



ANTHONY SEIGLER — Somerset Patriots (NY Yankees Double-A affiliate; 6th-yr. pro; Cartersville HS) … saw action in four games last week for the Patriots at the Hartford Yard Goats and went 3-for-17 at the plate with a walk, a double, and a two-run home run. In 34 games this season, the 23-year-old is hitting .189 with 15 RBIs in 111 official at-bats. Somerset (34-22, second place, Eastern League Northeast Division) won five of six games at Hartford last week and will host the Altoona Curve Tuesday through Sunday in a six-game set.
