Local rookie professional golfer Buck Brumlow made a rapid rise up the PGA TOUR Americas leaderboard on Sunday to earn a tie for eleventh at the Manitoba Open.

ANTHONY SEIGLER — Milwaukee Brewers (Major League Baseball; 8th-year pro; Cartersville HS) … appeared in five games this past week for the Brewers, including two starts at third base and three pinch-hitting plate appearances. He was 1-for-8, walked twice, and added one sacrifice.. His single was at home Saturday against the San Francisco Giants in a 7-1 loss. Milwaukee was 3-5 last week against the Chicago Cubs and Giants. Since joining the Brewers on July 1, the 26-year-old utility player is 11-for-53 (.208) with three RBI and two stolen bases. Milwaukee (81-50, first place in the NL Central by five games over Chicago) hosts the Arizona Diamondbacks for four games this week before playing a three-game series at the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend.

MASON BARNETT — Las Vegas Aviators (Oakland A’s Triple-A affiliate; 4th-year pro; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … made a five-inning pitching start with no decision last Thursday at the Albuquerque Isotopes in an eventual Aviators’ 11-10 win. The righty allowed six earned runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts. For the season, the 24-year-old is 6-2 in 25 appearances and 23 starts. He has 124 strikeouts in 119 innings with a 6.13 ERA. Las Vegas was 3-3 at Albuquerque and hosts the Iowa Cubs in a six-game series this week. The Aviators (72-54 overall) are 23-28 in the Pacific Coast League West’s second half, but have clinched a postseason berth by winning the division’s first half.



LOGAN MARTIN — Quad Cities River Bandits (Kansas City Royals High-Class A affiliate; 3rd-year pro; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … the 24-year-old right-handed pitcher did not make an appearance this week. He is 8-4 on the season in 20 starts with 70 strikeouts and a 3.75 ERA in 84 innings. Quad Cities was 3-3 last week at home against the Great Lakes Loons. The River Bandits (27-27, Midwest League second half, 66-54 overall) play a six-game series at the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers this week.



PGA TOUR AMERICAS


BUCK BRUMLOW — (1st year pro; University of Georgia; Cartersville HS) … tied for eleventh in the rain-shortened Manitoba Open this past weekend held at Breezy Bend Country Club in Winnipeg. The 22-year-old carded rounds of 70-65. Theo Humphries won the 36-hole event with an 11-under par total (66-65). Brumlow had two eagles in his final round and climbed 53 spots on the leaderboard. This week’s finish moves him to 66th on the Fortinet Cup standings list with four events remaining. Up next is the CRMC Championship on Thursday through Sunday at Craguns Legacy Course in Brainerd, Minnesota.
