Athletes Beyond Bartow: High-level performances by Lawrence have the Jaguars atop the AFC South

Trevor Lawrence, the former quarterback from Cartersville High, guided the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 48-20 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. This marks the Jaguars' fifth consecutive win, placing them at the top of the AFC South.
In the first nine games of this season, Lawrence threw 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. However, during the Jaguars' ongoing streak, he has improved to 13 touchdowns and four interceptions. Since the Week 12 overtime win against Arizona, where he threw three touchdowns and three interceptions, he has thrown nine touchdowns without any interceptions.
NFL
TREVOR LAWRENCE — Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL, 5th-year pro; Clemson; Cartersville HS) …accounted for six touchdowns, including a career-high five passing, and the Jacksonville Jaguars overwhelmed the New York Jets from start to finish in a 48-20 drubbing Sunday. Lawrence completed 20 of 32 passes for 330 yards and didn't have a turnover for the third consecutive game. His passer rating of 136.7 was the best of his five-year NFL career. Lawrence also ran for 51 yards and a score, a 15-yard scramble in the first quarter. The Jaguars (10-4) are in first place in the AFC South and visit the AFC West-leading Denver Broncos on Sunday.

NA’YEL CAMPER — Reinhardt University (So., Cartersville HS) … had one rebound and one assist in the Lady Eagles’ two wins last week at Union Commonwealth University (KY) and at home against Columbia International University (SC). Reinhardt (8-5, 6-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference) visits Point University on Wednesday and plays an exhibition against the University of North Georgia, an NCAA D-II opponent, on Friday night.
SE’NAI CAMPER — Montreat College (Fr., Cartersville HS) … saw action in both of the Lady Cavaliers’ games last week and had two rebounds in home losses to Milligan University and Bryan College (TN). Montreat (5-7, 3-4 Appalachian Athletic Conference) visits Georgia Gwinnett College on Tuesday.
ANSLEY GRIFFIN — North Carolina Wesleyan University (So., Cartersville HS) … scored one point with one assist and one rebound on December 10 in a start and 90-52 win at Regent University (VA). NCWU (2-6, 0-2 USA South Athletic Conference) visits Southern Virginia University on Monday night and Mary Baldwin University (VA) on Tuesday.
ZION HAYES — Vincennes University (So., Cass HS) … scored 10 points with six rebounds, four assists, and one steal on December 10 in a 64-41 win at John A. Logan College. The Trailblazers also beat Lincoln Trail CC 85-35 on Saturday. Vincennes (7-4) hosts Danville Area CC (IL) on Monday and Mineral Area College (MO) on Wednesday.
HALEY JOHNSON — Reinhardt University (Sr., Cass HS) … totaled seven points, with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the Eagles’ 65-52 win at Union Commonwealth University (KY) and a home 81-46 victory over Columbia International University (SC). Reinhardt (8-5, 6-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference) travels to Point University on Wednesday and visits the University of North Georgia on Friday night for an exhibition.
KEARA McDANIEL — Toccoa Falls College (Sr., Cass HS) … in three games last week, she totaled 17 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists. The Screamin’ Eagles won 68-50 at Wesleyan College last Thursday, but suffered an 82-24 loss at Emmanuel University on December 9 and a 105-21 loss at Young Harris College on Saturday. Toccoa Falls (5-8) returns to action on January 10 at Trinity College of Jacksonville (FL).
T.J. PRINTUP — Tusculum University (Jr., Adairsville HS) … totaled 17 points with 13 rebounds, five steals, and one blocked shot as the Pioneers lost 100-73 to visiting Carson-Newman University (TN) on December 10 and beat visiting Catawba College (NC) 76-75 this past Saturday. Tusculum (5-5, 2-3 South Atlantic Conference) plays at Mars Hill University on Wednesday.
MEGAN SCHULTZ — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (So., Woodland HS) … had two rebounds, one assist, and one steal in a 72-47 win December 8 at Beacon College (FL). She also saw court time in a 77-67 home loss on December 10 to Georgia Gwinnett College. The Fillies (3-7, 1-2 Southern States Athletic Conference) host Trinity College of Jacksonville (FL) on Monday night.
LONDAISHA SMITH — Reinhardt University (Sr., Cass HS) … totaled 27 points with 11 rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and one blocked shot in wins over Union Commonwealth University (KY) on the road and at home over Columbia International University (SC) on December 10 and this past Saturday. The Eagles (8-5, 6-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference) visit Point University on Wednesday and play an exhibition at NCAA D-II University of North Georgia on Friday.
ALISSA WINTERS — Truett McConnell University (So., Adairsville HS) … totaled six points in two starts last week and added three steals, one assist, and one rebound as the Bears won 60-57 at home December 10 over Columbia College (SC) but lost 89-57 this past Saturday at the College of Coastal Georgia. TMU (3-8, 2-5 Appalachian Athletic Conference) travels to Florida this week to play at Warner University on Wednesday, face Culver-Stockton College (MO) in Lake Wales on Friday, and visit Southeastern University on Saturday.
WRESTLING
WILLIAM BISHOP — Reinhardt University (Sr., Woodland HS) … went 1-2 in his bouts at 125 pounds as the Eagles went 2-1 at the Rocky Top Duals in Gatlinburg, Tennessee this past weekend. Reinhardt defeated Cornerstone University (MI) and Georgetown College (KY), but lost to Campbellsville University (KY). The Eagles host Life University on Wednesday.

JOE WOMACK — Furman University (So., Cartersville resident, Darlington HS) … placed 29th in the 200 meters with a time of 22.69 at the Clemson University opener on December 5. The Paladins return to action on January 16-17 at the Vanderbilt University Invitational.
