Athletes Beyond Bartow: Howard makes a pair of scoreless appearances




Cartersville native Sam Howard made a pair of near spotless relief appearances this past week for the Toledo Mud Hens and Canes’ product A.J. Mosby scored 14 points in the opening game of The Basketball League’s best-of-three championship series.



PRO BASKETBALL




A.J. MOSBY — Albany Patroons (5th yr. pro; The Basketball League; Alcorn State; Cartersville HS) … scored 14 points, grabbed a pair of rebounds, and added three steals and six assists in the Patroons 123-115 loss at the Shreveport Mavericks Saturday night in Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series of The Basketball League. Albany hosts Game 2 Thursday night and will host Game 3 Friday night if needed.




PRO BASEBALL



SAM HOWARD — Toledo Mud Hens (9th yr. pro; Triple-A Detroit Tigers organization; Georgia Southern; Cartersville HS) … made home relief appearances last Wednesday and Friday against Louisville allowing no runs or hits and only one walk in a total of 1-2/3 innings. The Mud Hens, who had a 3-4 week, have a series at the Omaha Storm Chasers this week.


CONNOR JUSTUS — Charleston (WV) Dirty Birds (7th yr. pro; Independent Atlantic League; Georgia Tech; Cartersville HS) … appearing in five games last week, Justus was 3-for-19 at the plate including a triple, one walk, one run scored, and one RBI. The Dirty Birds (26-39) were 1-6 this past week and play home and home series with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs this week.


ANTHONY SEIGLER — Hudson Valley Renegades (5th yr. pro; High Class-A New York Yankees organization; Cartersville HS) … started five games last week going 3-for-17 at the plate with four walks, one RBI, and four runs scored. The Renegades (39-37 overall; 5-5 in 2nd Half) went 4-2 last week against the Brooklyn Cyclones. Hudson Valley plays a six game series this week at the Jersey Shore Blueclaws.
