LOGAN MARTIN — Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants Double-A affiliate; 4th-year pro; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … made a four-inning pitching start but received no decision in the Flying Squirrels’ 5-3 home win April 8 over the Altoona Curve. Martin gave up three earned runs on two hits and three walks. He struck out five. Richmond started the week with an 8-1 record and plays a six-game series at the Hartford Yard Goats on Tuesday through Sunday.



ANTHONY SEIGLER — Worcester Red Sox (Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate; 9th-year pro; Cartersville HS) … The MLB Red Sox optioned 26-year-old Seigler last week to Worcester after taking him off the MLB injured list to begin the year. Boston acquired him as a utility player from the Milwaukee Brewers in the off-season. Seigler has been dealing with a lingering left knee problem, but was deemed ready to play, although Boston had no place for him on the active MLB roster. He started at third base last Saturday and went 1-for-4 with a double in a 7-0 home loss to the Columbus Clippers. Worcester began the week with a 10-4 mark in the International League East. They play a six-game series at Nashville from Tuesday through Sunday.



BEACH VOLLEYBALL


AILEE ENGLAND — Berry College (So., Cartersville HS) … went 0-4 in Flight 3 matches with partner Kaylee Howell last Friday and Saturday as the D3 Vikings took on four NCAA Division I opponents in Chattanooga. Berry lost to Georgia State,  UT Martin, North Alabama, and UT Chattanooga, tuning up for the AVCA D3 National Championship Tournament on Friday through Sunday in Gulf Shores, Alabama.


LAUREN LAWSON — University of South Carolina (Jr., Cartersville HS) … won a Flight 3 match with partner Evie Ziffer and lost a Flight 3 match this past Saturday as the 18th-ranked Gamecocks defeated visiting and 14th-ranked Stetson University, 3-2, but also lost to the Hatters 3-2. South Carolina (18-7) will face Georgia State, UNC Wilmington, North Florida, and host Stetson on Friday and Saturday at the Deland Cup in Deland, Florida.


LONDON MOULTRIE — Wingate University (Sr., Cartersville HS) … lost two Flight 3 matches with partner Amelia Talbott as the Bulldogs lost to Carson-Newman University and Catawba College last Friday in Greenville, Tennessee. Wingate plays in the AVCA Small College Championships on Thursday through Sunday in Gulf Shores, Alabama.



TENNIS


EMILY BUSH — University of North Georgia (Sr., Cartersville HS) … won her Line 5 singles and was leading at Line 3 doubles with partner Linn Goerdes last Thursday in the Nighthawks’ 7-0 home victory over Lander University (SC). North Georgia (13-5) plays Peach Belt Conference matches on Tuesday at Columbus State University, Friday at Middle Georgia State University, and Saturday at Georgia Southwestern University.


SYDNEY COPPOLA — Berry College (Jr., Cass HS) … lost both of her Line 3 doubles matches with partner Charlee Eidson last Saturday and Sunday as the Vikings fell to Sewanee-University of the South (TN) and Centre College (KY). Berry (4-12) will play the University of Mary Washington (VA) on Saturday in Sewanee and visit Oglethorpe University in Atlanta on Sunday.



TRACK AND FIELD


McKINLEY CHAPPELL — Berry College (Sr., Woodland HS) … placed 19th in the 5000-meter run as the Vikings hosted the Berry Field Day Invitational last weekend. Berry hosts the Southern Athletic Association Outdoor Championships on April 24-25.


ANDY FORSYTH — Berry College (So., Woodland HS) … finished first (1:53.43) in the 800-meters this past weekend at the Berry Field Day Invitational. Next, the Vikings will host the SAA Championships on April 24-25.


WILL PARKER — Columbia College (Fr., Woodland HS) … finished seventh (4:42.05) for a personal best in the 1500-meters last Friday at the Francis Marion University Invitational in Florence, South Carolina. The Koalas travel to Rock Hill, South Carolina, this weekend for the Winthrop Invitational.


DANIELLE THAYER — Augusta University (Jr., Woodland HS) … finished 44th (19:18.42) in the 5000-meter run last Friday at the Lee University Invitational in Cleveland, Tennessee. The Jaguars will have participants at the Wake Forest Invitational and the Georgia Tech Invitational this weekend.


JAYLEN SCOTT — Reinhardt University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … placed 12th (137’7”) in the hammer throw last weekend at the Berry College Field Day Invitational. Reinhardt competes at the Keith Wright Memorial Meet in Marietta on Saturday.



GOLF


BRODY TI(DWELL — Georgia State University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … carded rounds of 75-72-75 (6-over par) April 6-8 and tied for 44th individually as the Panthers tied for fourth place at the Stifel Spring Challenge held at True Blue Golf Club in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina. UConn won the 16-team tournament, followed by UAB and George Washington. The Panthers tied with Jacksonville State. Georgia State plays in the Sun Belt Conference Championship April 27-30 in Madison, Mississippi.



SOFTBALL


KILEY ARNOLD — Shorter University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … went 2-for-5, including one sacrifice fly, one run, and one RBI in two Hawks’ losses at Young Harris College last Saturday. Shorter (13-32, 7-17 Conference Carolinas) hosts Southern Wesleyan University (SC) for a doubleheader on Wednesday and completes regular season play on Saturday at King University (TN) in Bristol.


JORDAN BISHOP — Virginia Tech (Fr., Cartersville HS) … went 0-for-2 as a pinch hitter last Friday and Saturday as the 10th-ranked Hokies won two of three games at 21st-ranked Virginia over the weekend. Virginia Tech (36-6, 11-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) visits Liberty University for a single game on Wednesday before hosting a three-game conference series with Georgia Tech on Friday through Sunday.


ANSLEY HIGHT — Reinhardt University (Jr., Cass HS) … went 3-for-7 including two doubles and two RBI in the Eagles’ two wins on April 8 at home over Spartanburg Methodist College. Reinhardt (19-5, 15-3 Appalachian Athletic Conference) visits Brenau University for a doubleheader on Tuesday, hosts Milligan College (TN) for two games on Wednesday, and welcomes Tennessee Wesleyan University for two on Friday afternoon.


ALYSSA JARRETT — Piedmont University (Jr., Adairsville HS) … the Lions’ catcher made a home start on April 8 against Johnson & Wales—Charlotte and went 0-for-2 in an 8-0 win. Piedmont (20-11, 7-5 Collegiate Conference of the South) entertains Berry College for a Wednesday doubleheader and hosts Covenant College for two games on Saturday.


ERYN LEE — Reinhardt University (Sr., Cass HS) … went 1-for-5 with a double and one sacrifice hit in the Eagles’ 3-1 and 6-0 home wins over Spartanburg Methodist College on April 8. Reinhardt (19-5, 15-3 Appalachian Athletic Conference) travels to Gainesville for two games at Brenau University on Tuesday, welcomes Milligan College (TN) for a home doubleheader on Wednesday, and hosts two games with Tennessee Wesleyan University on Friday.


RACHAEL LEE — Valdosta State University (Sr., Cass HS) … went 1-for-7, including one double, one walk, and one run scored as the Blazers went 1-2 last Friday and Saturday at Lee University. VSU (19-21, 11-13 Gulf South Conference) welcomes Christian Brothers University for three games on Saturday and Sunday.


BRIE PATTERSON — Lee University (Fr., Adairsville HS) … made her collegiate debut but was unsuccessful as a pinch hitter last Friday in the Flames’ 5-3 home victory over Valdosta State University. Lee (15-29, 8-16 Gulf South Conference) hosts Tusculum University (TN) on Tuesday for two games and the Universitiy of West Alabama or three games on Saturday and Sunday.


AVA PERKINS — Lander University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … made an appearance as a pinch hitter in the Bearkats’ 3-0 home win last Sunday over Flagler College (FL). Lander (26-13, 12-6 Peach Belt Conference) visits Georgia College for three games on Friday and Saturday.


ALEXIS WOODS — Tennessee State University (Jr., Cass HS) … went 2-for-5, including one sacrifice hit, one run scored, and one RBI last weekend as the Tigers won for the first time this season during a three-game series at Morehead State University. TSU (1-29, 1-17) visits Middle Tennessee State University on Wednesday and hosts Western Illinois University for three conference games on Saturday and Sunday.



BASEBALL


CAMERON ADAMS — Shorter University (R-Fr., Excel Christian Academy) … made a successful pinch hit appearance last Saturday in the Hawks’ 19-5 home win over Chowan University (NC). The Hawks (14-23, 6-21 Conference Carolinas) host Middle Georgia State University on Tuesday and play a three-game series at the University of Mount Olive (NC) on Friday and Saturday.


DREW BILLINGS — Trinity College of Jacksonville (Sr., Woodland HS) … entered in the sixth inning and faced six batters, and was charged with the pitching loss as the Eagles fell at Toccoa Falls College (GA) 9-5. Billings allowed four earned runs on three hits and one walk, recording only one out. Trinity (14-19, 7-5 USCAA DII) hosts Florida National University for three games on Friday and Saturday.


CURT BONNER — LaGrange College (Sr., Cartersville HS) … went 2-for-10 in a three-game series at Belhaven University (MS), including one walk, one hit by pitch, one sacrifice hit, one sacrifice fly, and two RBI. The Panthers (15-15, 4-8 Collegiate Conference of the South) lost all three games in Jackson and will try to bounce back Friday through Sunday at home when they welcome Piedmont University for three conference games.  


CALEB DANIEL — Georgia Tech (So., Cartersville HS) … in four home games last week — one with Kennesaw State and three with Florida State — Daniel went 2-for-9, including one home run, one double, one walk, and two RBI. The 2nd-ranked Yellow Jackets (30-5, 15-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) host Georgia Southern University on Tuesday before playing a three-game conference series at 3rd-ranked North Carolina this weekend in Chapel Hill.


MICAH EARWOOD — Southeastern University (Sr., Cartersville HS) … made two, one-inning relief appearances with no decision last Thursday and Saturday at home against Ave Maria University (FL). He allowed no runs on one hit with four strikeouts in the appearances while the Fire went 3-1 in the series. Southeastern (30-12, 14-6 Sun Conference) has a four-game series at Webber International University (FL) on Thursday through Saturday.


ELLIOTT EASTIN — Covenant College (R-Jr., Cartersville HS) … in three losses last Friday and Saturday at 24th-ranked Piedmont University, Eastin went 1-for-8 with four walks and one stolen base. The Scots (11-20, 4-11 Collegiate Conference of the South) host Berry College on Tuesday and a three-game series with Maryville College (TN) on Friday and Saturday.


RYAN FARR — Kentucky Christian University (So., Adairsville HS) … made a three-inning middle relief appearance on April 9 during a 13-3 win for the Knights at Indiana University-Indianapolis. Farr did not allow a run on two hits with three strikeouts. KCU (19-17, 10-11 River States Conference) visits Ohio Christian University on Tuesday and hosts a three-game series with Rio Grande College (OH) on Friday and Saturday.


AIDAN LARKIN — Georgia Highlands College (Fr., Cartersville HS) … went 10-for-17, including two home runs, one triple, three doubles, two walks, six runs scored, and eight RBI, in a four-game home-and-home series sweep of Gordon State College. Through 46 games, Larkin has 14 homers, 57 RBI, and a .469 batting average. The Chargers (37-9, 17-2 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association) have a four-game home-and-home series this week with East Georgia College. 


HUNTER LOVETT — Oglethorpe University (Fr., Cass HS) … entered in the second inning and made a five-inning appearance this past Sunday as the Stormy Petrels won at Rhodes College in Memphis, 14-8. Lovett allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk while fanning two. Oglethorpe (16-14, 7-5 Southern Athletic Association) hosts Berry College for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.


LUKE MILLER — Columbus State University (So., Cartersville HS) … started two of five games for the Cougars last week — April 7 at home vs. West Florida and last Friday at the 13th-ranked University of North Georgia. Miller went 2-for-8 in the two games and scored one run. CSU (24-15, 16-8 Peach Belt Conference) hosts Auburn University Montgomery on Tuesday and a three-game series with Augusta University on Friday through Sunday.


AYDEN RAY — USC Lancaster (So., Woodland HS) … went 4-for-10 and extended his current hitting streak to nine games as the Lancers won two of three games last Saturday and Sunday at USC Sumter. Ray had one walk, scored three runs, and drove in three runs in the series as his season totals rose to a .391 batting average with eight homers and 42 RBI. USC Lancaster (22-20, 9-14 Carolina Junior College Conference) welcomes USC Union for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.


DREW ROTHSCHILD — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (Sr., Cartersville HS) … went 3-for-10, including one walk, two runs scored, and two RBI as the Stallions swept a three-game home series with Point University (GA). ABAC (29-14, 14-7 Southern States Athletic Conference) hosts Albany State University on Tuesday before visiting Blue Mountain University (MS) for three games on Friday and Saturday.


LOGAN SHREWSBURY — Columbus State University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … made a 4-⅓ innings start with no decision on April 8 in an eventual 6-2 home loss to the 12th-ranked University of West Florida. He allowed two earned runs on three hits and five walks. The Cougars (24-15, 16-8 Peach Belt Conference) welcome Auburn University Montgomery on Tuesday and host a three-game conference with Augusta University this weekend.


HANK SMITH — University of West Georgia (R-Jr., Cartersville HS) …  the Wolves catcher made starts on April 7 and this past Saturday as UWG loss at Mercer University and at home to the University of North Florida. Smith was 0-for-6 at the plate. The Wolves (11-25, 8-7 Atlantic Sun Conference) visit Georgia State University on Tuesday night and play a three-game conference series at Jacksonville University (FL) on Friday through Sunday.


DAVIS WILLIAMS — University of West Georgia (R-Jr., Cartersville HS) … made two, late-inning relief appearances for the Wolves last week with no decision. He gave up three earned runs on four hits and one walk in a 7-3 home loss to the University of North Florida last Friday. He also retired all four batters he faced in the seventh and eighth innings in a 5-3 loss to the Ospreys. Williams had one strikeout in each appearance. West Georgia (11-25, 8-7 Atlantic Sun Conference) plays at Georgia State University on Tuesday night and has a three-game conference series at Jacksonville University (FL) on Friday through Sunday.


SAWYER WILSON — Columbus State University (So., Cartersville HS) … made a three-inning start and was the losing pitcher last Friday in a 12-5 loss at 12th-ranked North Georgia. Wilson yielded six earned runs on eight hits and struck out three. His season record slipped to 4-3. The Cougars (24-15, 16-8 Peach Belt Conference) welcome Auburn University Montgomery on Tuesday and host a three-game conference with Augusta University this weekend.
