Athletes Beyond Bartow: Red Sox rule out Seigler for Opening Day

With Opening Day just around the corner for Major League Baseball, the Boston Red Sox have updated the status of Cartersville’s Anthony Seigler. Elsewhere, local professional golfer Buck Brumlow prepares for his first start on the PGA Korn Ferry Tour, while local collegiate athletes continue to contribute in softball, baseball, golf, beach volleyball, tennis, gymnastics, and track & field.



MLB


ANTHONY SEIGLER — Boston Red Sox (9th-yr. pro; Cartersville HS) … the former Yankees’ first-round selection was acquired in a six-player deal from the Milwaukee Brewers as the 2026 camp opened, but he has not played in a spring training game yet due to lingering knee issues. The 26-year-old is doing baseball activities but has not progressed to the point where he’s game-ready, according to Patrick McAvoy of Sports Illustrated. “He’s been banged up,” said Boston manager Alex Cora. “He hasn’t played. We’ll take it day by day.” According to reports, he could start the year on the IL, or if ready, active at Worcester in Triple-A. Seigler made his MLB debut with Milwaukee in 2025 after spending most of the season at Triple-A Nashville. In 34 big league games played, he got time at catcher, first base, third base, and DH. According to Cora, he will be a Swiss Army Knife of depth for the organization when he gets healthy. The organization has acknowledged that it will not be on Opening Day.



PGA KORN FERRY TOUR


BUCK BRUMLOW — (2nd year pro; University of Georgia; Cartersville HS) … the 23-year-old will make his Korn Ferry Tour inaugural start this week at the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club in Savannah. Brumlow is playing on a sponsors exemption he earned from winning the 2025 Invitational at The Ford collegiate event as a senior at Georgia.



SOFTBALL


KILEY ARNOLD — Shorter University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … went 1-for-12 in four home games last Friday and Saturday — doubleheaders against Chowan University and Barton College. The Hawks (11-24, 5-11 Conference Carolinas) visit the University of North Georgia for two games on Tuesday and play a conference doubleheader on Saturday at Southern Wesleyan University (SC). 


JORDAN BISHOP — Virginia Tech (Fr., Cartersville HS) … entered as a pinch runner and catcher, then went 1-for-1 at the plate with two RBI on March 18 in a Hokies’ 12-0 win at Longwood University. She also made an appearance as a pinch hitter this past Sunday at home against NC State in a 2-1 win. 16th-ranked Virginia Tech (28-4, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) has a three-game conference series at Boston College this weekend.


JORDAN CLAY — Shorter University (Fr., Adairsville HS) … made a one-inning pitching start  last Saturday in a 10-0 home loss to Columbus State University and allowed six earned runs on five hits and four walks. The Hawks (11-24, 5-11 Carolinas Conference) visit the University of North Georgia for a doubleheader on Tuesday and travel to Southern Wesleyan University (SC) for two conference games on Saturday.


HAYLEE DISHMON — Berry College (Jr., Cass HS) … made an appearance as a pinch runner in a Vikings’ 4-3 loss at Southwestern University (TX) last Saturday. Berry (16-5, 1-2 Southern Athletic Association) welcomes Millsaps College (MS) for three conference games on Saturday and Sunday.


ANSLEY HIGHT — Reinhardt University (Jr., Cass HS) … went 2-for-6, including a three-run home run this past Saturday as the Eagles swept a home doubleheader with Columbia International University (SC) 1-0 and 3-1. Reinhardt (14-4, 10-2 Appalachian Athletic Conference) hosts Spartanburg Methodist College for two games on Wednesday before traveling to Johnson University (TN) for a doubleheader on Friday.


ALYSSA JARRETT — Piedmont University (Jr., Adairsville HS) … went 2-for-6 with one sacrifice, one run scored, and two RBI in three starts last week as the Lions beat Brevard College (NC) at home and won two games at Asbury University (KY). Piedmont (13-7, 2-0 Collegiate Conference of the South) visits Agnes Scott College for two games on Tuesday and hosts a doubleheader with Huntingdon College (AL) on Friday.


ERYN LEE — Reinhardt University (Sr., Cass HS) … went 1-for-5 with one walk last Saturday as the Eagles swept a home doubleheader with Columbia International University (SC). The Eagles (14-4, 10-2 Appalachian Athletic Conference) host Spartanburg Methodist College for a Wednesday doubleheader and travel to Knoxville for two games at Johnson University on Friday.


RACHAEL LEE — Valdosta State University (Sr., Cass HS) … went 3-for-10, including one double and one sacrifice hit in five games last week. She also scored three runs as the Blazers split home games with Rollins College (FL), but suffered three losses at the University of Montevallo. VSU (14-15, 8-7 Gulf South Conference) visits Mississippi College for three conference games on Saturday and Sunday.


AVA PERKINS — Lander University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … made three starts and appeared in four games last week as the Bearkats won at Emmanuel University (GA) but dropped two of three home games with the University of North Georgia. Perkins went 0-for-8 at the plate, but coaxed three walks. Lander (19-9, 7-2 Peach Belt Conference) hosts Lenoir-Rhyne University for two games on Wednesday and visits Middle Georgia University for three games on Friday and Saturday.


ALEXIS WOODS — Tennessee State University (Jr., Cass HS) … went 4-for-11 with one walk, one RBI, and one run scored  in a loss to UT-Chattanooga and three home losses to UT Martin. The Tigers (0-20, 0-9 Ohio Valley Conference) host Lipscomb University on Wednesday and visit Southeast Missouri for three games this weekend.



BASEBALL


CAMERON ADAMS — Shorter University (Fr., Excel Christian Academy) … made one start and appeared in two games at Ferrum College (VA). Adams went 1-for-5 with one walk and scored one run as the Hawks split the two games on Saturday. Shorter (11-15, 3-15 Conference Carolinas) welcomes Carson-Newman University on Tuesday and visits UNC Pembroke for three games on Friday and Saturday.


CURT BONNER — LaGrange College (Sr., Cartersville HS) … in four home games last week, Bonner went 3-for-13, including two doubles, three walks, two runs, and five RBI as the Panthers went 2-2 with a loss to Berry College and won two of three with Asbury University (KY). LaGrange (13-11, 2-4 Collegiate Conference of the South) plays a three-game conference series at Covenant College on Friday and Saturday.


CALEB DANIEL — Georgia Tech (So., Cartersville HS) … went 2-for-9, including one walk, one run scored, and four RBI last week across four games. The Yellow Jackets lost at 5th-ranked Auburn and won two of three at Pittsburgh. Third ranked Georgia Tech host the NC State Wolfpack for three conference games on Friday through Sunday.


GAVIN DYSON — LaGrange College (Fr., Excel Christian Academy) … pitched the final inning of the Panthers’ 15-5 home win over Asbury University (KY) this past Sunday. Dyson faced three batters and hit one batter, but got out of the inning with two flyouts. LaGrange (13-11, 2-4 Collegiate Conference of the South) has a three-game series at Covenant College on Friday and Saturday.


MICAH EARWOOD — Southeastern University (Sr., Cartersville HS) … pitched a scoreless eighth inning this past Saturday as the NAIA 10th-ranked Fire won 5-1 at Florida Memorial University.  Earwood faced four batters, was called for a balk, and struck out two. Southeastern (23-7, 7-1 Sun Conference) has an important home conference series with 11th-ranked St. Thomas University on Thursday through Saturday.


ELLIOTT EASTIN — Covenant College (Jr., Cartersville HS) … went 4-for-8 with five walks, three runs scored, four RBI, and stole one base this past weekend as the Scots dropped two of three games at Huntingdon College (AL). Covenant (9-12, 2-4 Collegiate Conference of the South) visits Oglethorpe University on Tuesday and hosts three games with LaGrange College on Friday and Saturday.


COLIN EATON — East Tennessee State University (Sr., Cartersville HS) … retired the final two outs of the seventh inning on Sunday in the Buccaneers’ 15-8 win at UNC Greensboro. He allowed one earned run on two hits and one hit batter with one strikeout. ETSU (16-6, 2-1 Southern Conference) welcomes Virginia Tech on Tuesday and hosts VMI for three games over the weekend.


RYAN FARR — Kentucky Christian University (So., Adairsville HS) … entered in the sixth inning and worked 2-⅔ innings of a 10-9 home loss to Midway University (KY). Farr allowed two unearned runs on three walks and two hit batters with three strikeouts in a non-decision appearance. The Knights (11-12, 5-7 River States Conference) host Ohio Christian University on Tuesday and Indiana University Southeast for three games on Friday and Saturday.


JACKSON HARWELL — Wallace CC-Dothan (Fr., Carterville HS) … has made four pitching appearances covering 2-⅔ innings between February 13 and March 11 with no decisions, a 3.38 ERA and one strikeout The Governors (16-16, 10-6 ACCC D-II) visit Gulf Coast State in Panama City on Tuesday and play a home-and-home four game series with Lurleen B. Wallace CC with doubleheaders on Thursday and Saturday.


AIDAN LARKIN — Georgia Highlands College (Fr., Cartersville HS) … went 8-for-14, including three doubles, six walks, three RBI, and seven runs scored as the Chargers swept four games last week with Andrew College. GHC (30-8, 10-1 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association) plays at South Georgia State on March 31.


HUNTER LOVETT — Oglethorpe University (Fr., Cass HS) … made two pitching appearances this past Saturday covering three total innings as the Stormy Petrels swept a doubleheader at Southwestern University (TX). Lovett earned his first collegiate save by recording the final two outs of a 14-11 win and worked 2-⅓ innings of middle relief in a 17-15 win. In the two outings, he yielded no runs on three hits and one walk. Oglethorpe (10-8, 2-1 Southern Athletic Association) hosts Covenant College on Tuesday night and a three-game conference series with 16th-ranked Trinity University (TX) on Friday and Saturday.


LUKE MILLER — Columbus State University (So., Cartersville HS) … in a home three-game conference sweep of Lander University over the weekend, Miller was 4-for-12 at the plate with two walks, two runs scored, three RBI, and two stolen bases. The Cougars (17-9, 11-4 Peach Belt Conference) visit Albany State on Tuesday and welcome USC Beaufort for three games on Friday through Sunday.


AYDEN RAY — USC Lancaster (So., Woodland HS) … appeared in two home losses last Saturday to Gaston College and went 1-for-5 with two walks, one runs scored, and one RBI. The Lancers (17-15, 4-9 NJCAA Region 10) visit Rockingham CC for a doubleheader on Wednesday and USC Salkehatchie for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.


DREW ROTHSCHILD — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (Sr., Cartersville HS) … in five starts last week — two at Trinity College of Jacksonville and three at Thomas University (GA), he went 3-for-17, including one double, two walks, three runs scored, and one RBI. The Stallions won four of the five games, improving to 23-9 overall and 8-4 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. ABAC hosts Middle Georgia State University on Tuesday and Faulkner University (AL) for three games on Friday and Saturday.


LOGAN SHREWSBURY — Columbus State University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … did not allow a run and retired the final four outs of a 16-6 home win March 17 over Clark Atlanta University. He walked one and struck out one, facing five batters. The Cougars (17-9, 11-4 Peach Belt Conference) travel to Albany State on Tuesday and host USC Beaufort for three games on Friday through Sunday.


DAVIS WILLIAMS — University of West Georgia (R-Jr., Cartersville HS) … made two relief pitching appearances last weekend at Stetson University covering three innings as the Wolves dropped two of three games to the Hatters. Williams allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts, facing 13 batters. UWG (6-18, 3-3 Atlantic Sun Conference) host Mercer on Tuesday night before visiting Queens University of Charlotte for three games on Friday through Sunday.


SAWYER WILSON — Columbus State Universitiy (So., Cartersville HS) … was named CSU Athlete of the Week last Thursday following his dominant performance at Georgia College the previous weekend. The right-hand pitcher improved to 4-1 with a compete-game, three hitter that included five strikeouts. He has moved into the Friday night starter role and this past week made a 6-⅓ inning start with no decision in an eventual 6-5 home win over Lander University. He allowed three earned runs on eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts against the Bearkats. The Cougars (17-9, 11-4 Peach Belt Conference) visit Albany State on Tuesday and welcome USC Beaufort for a three-game conference series on Friday through Sunday.



GOLF


ANDREW LUTJENS — Georgia College (Fr., Cartersville HS) … carded rounds of 74-74 (8-over par) and tied for 37th individually of 74 players as the Bobcats finished 13th of 14 teams at the Georgia College Invitational. The tournament was held at the 6,730-yard, par-70, Cuscowilla On Lake Oconee in Eatonton. Georgia Southwestern State University won the tournament, followed by USC Aiken and Grand Valley State University. The Bobcats travel to Pensacola Country Club for the University of West Florida Argonaut Invitational on March 30-31.


BRODY TIDWELL — Georgia State University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … shot 75-76 (7-over par) and tied for 16th of 83 players individually as the Panthers placed 10th of 15 teams at the Southern Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Georgia at the 6,917-yard, par 72, Athens Country Club. The host Bulldogs won the tournament, followed by Western Carolina and Mercer University. Georgia State travels to Wilmington, North Carolina, for the UNC-Wilmington Seahawk Intercollegiate on March 30-31.



BEACH VOLLEYBALL


AILEE ENGLAND — Berry College (So., Cartersville HS) … had four Line 3 wins this past Friday and Saturday with partner Kaylee Howell as Berry went 4-0 and hosted the DIII Only Invitational. The England/Howell defeated opponents from Huntingdon College, Stevenson University (MD), East Texas Baptist University, and the University of Lynchburg (VA). The Vikings (17-4) continue play on the road this weekend at the Carson-Newman Tournament in Jefferson City, Tennessee.


LAUREN LAWSON — University of South Carolina (Jr., Cartersville HS) …  saw action in an extra match last Friday in Birmingham as the 20th-ranked Gamecocks defeated UAB 5-0. Her match with partner VB Trost was unfinished with the duo trailing in a third set. The Gamecocks (13-3) travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for matches with Florida State and Arizona State on Friday.


LONDON MOULTRIE — Wingate University (Sr., Cartersville HS) … won both Line 3 matches with partner Amelia Talbott last Thursday as the Bulldogs beat Catawba College 3-2 and 4-1. The weekend included a team loss to Liberty University and two team wins over Richard Bland College (VA) and Salem University (WV), but no individual results were available at the time of this report. Wingate hosts Catawba College on Wednesday and plays in a tournament this weekend at Jacksonville University.



TENNIS


EMILY BUSH — University of North Georgia (Sr., Cartersville HS) … won her Line 6 singles 6-2, 6-4, and Line 2 doubles with partner Linn Goerdes 6-2 in a 7-0 home team win March 18 over Augusta University. Last Thursday, the Line 2 doubles duo won 6-1 in a 4-0 victory at Young Harris College. Against 4th-ranked West Alabama on Sunday in Rome, Bush lost a three-set Line 6 singles match, and she and Goerdes dropped a Line 2 doubles set in a 4-2 team loss. The 7th-ranked Nighthawks visit Flagler College (FL) on Friday and play at Rollins College (FL) on Sunday.


SYDNEY COPPOLA — Berry College (Jr., Cass HS) … won her Line 6 singles match in three sets, but lost at third doubles with Charlee Eidson as the Vikings fell 5-2 last Friday at home to Brenau University. Berry (3-7) hosts Millsaps College (MS) on Saturday and Rhodes College (TN) on Sunday for Southern Athletic Association matches.



GYMNASTICS


ABIGAIL BUNCH — Rhode Island College (Sr., Cass HS) … tied for 42nd on bars (9.000) at the 2026 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) National Championship, hosted by Cortland (NY) last Friday. Bunch was also named an NCGA Academic All-American for her performance in the classroom.



TRACK AND FIELD


BEN ABERNATHY — Reinhardt University (Fr., Adairsville HS) … finished 27th (41’1.75”) in the triple jump last Friday and Saturday at the Emory University Spring Break Classic. The Eagles compete on Friday at the Kennesaw State Invitational.


McKINLEY CHAPPELL — Berry College (Sr., Woodland HS) … placed 15th in the 5000-meter run this past weekend at the Emory University Spring Break Classic. The Vikings are scheduled for the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet on Friday and Saturday.


ANDY FORSYTH — Berry College (So., Woodland HS) … was part of the Vikings’ first-place 4x800 meter relay team last weekend at the Emory University Spring Break Classic. Berry returns to Atlanta this weekend for the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet on Friday and Saturday.


TYLER JONES — University of West Georgia (Jr., Woodland HS) … placed 13th this past weekend in the 5000-meter run (15:55) at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Invitational. The Wolves will host the UWG Legends Meet on April 3-4 in Carrollton.


WILL PARKER — Columbia College (Fr., Woodland HS) … finished 32nd (4:45.29) in the 1500-meter run at the Montreat College (NC) Open this past weekend. The next meet for the Koalas is the VertKlasse in High Point, North Carolina, on April 2-3.


BARRETT STEPP — Augusta University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … placed 56th (2:07.91) in the 800-meter run this past weekend at the Emory University Spring Break Classic. The Jaguars compete at the Raleigh Relays this Thursday through Saturday at NC State.


DANIELLE THAYER -- Augusta University (Jr., Woodand HS) ... placed fourth (12:11.51) in the 3000-meter steeplechase this past weekend at the Emory University Spring Break Classic. Next for Augusta is the NC State Raleigh Relays on Thursday through Saturday.
