Athletes Beyond Bartow: Seigler hits three homers

Former Cartersville High catcher and now-turned-second baseman, Anthony Seigler, hit three home runs last week in the Somerset Patriots series with the Bowie BaySox of the Eastern League.
This week’s update also includes the completion of the UFL’s regular season updates on the other two local MiLB pitchers.
UFL
VIC BEASLEY, JR. — Arlington Renegades (10th-yr. pro; Clemson; Adairsville HS) … saw action in the Renegades’ season finale this past weekend — a 32-31 win over the DC Defenders — but did not record any tackles. He finished the 10-game UFL season with 17 tackles including 14 solo, five sacks, one pass break-up, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Arlington was 3-7 this season.
JORDAN FERGUSON — Memphis Showboats (2nd-yr. pro; Middle Tennessee; Cartersville HS) … had seven tackles including a sack and one other tackle for loss as Memphis closed out the season this past weekend with a 19-12 home win over the Houston Roughnecks. Ferguson completed the season with 45 tackles including 31 solo, five sacks, and one fumble recovery. The Showboats finished the season with a 2-8 record.

MASON BARNETT — Northwest Arkansas Naturals (3rd-yr. pro; Kansas City Royals Double-A affiliate; Texas League; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … suffered the pitching loss last Friday in a 3-2 loss at the Tulsa Drillers. He went five innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits and three walks. Two of the hits were home runs. He struck out seven. Now 2-3 in nine starts and 10 appearances, Barnett has a 6.17 ERA with 62 strikeouts in 46-⅔ innings. Northwest Arkansas (22-28) is in fourth place in the Texas League’s North Division. The Naturals are 7-½ games behind the Springfield Cardinals. Northwest Arkansas hosts the Wichita Wind Surge this week in a six-game series.
LOGAN MARTIN — Columbia Fireflies (2nd-yr. pro; Kansas City Royals Single-A affiliate; Carolina League Kentucky; Cartersville HS) …. pitched three innings of relief this past Sunday in a 7-3 loss at Kannapolis Cannon Balls but received no decision. He allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks. Martin struck out two. The 22-year-old is 1-0 in nine appearances (five starts). He has two saves and 31 strikeouts in 36 innings on the mound. Columbia (24-25) is in third place in the Carolina League’s South Division and 6-½ games behind Kannapolis. The Fireflies host the Fayetteville Woodpeckers this week in a six-game series.
ANTHONY SEIGLER — Somerset Patriots (7th-yr. pro; NY Yankees Double-A affiliate; Eastern League; Cartersville HS) … in five home games last week against Bowie BaySox, he was 5-for-16 including three home runs, one walk, five runs scored, and one stolen base. The three homers came in back-to-back games. The 24-year-old lifted his batting average to .205 in 127 official at-bats. He has 10 RBIs and has stolen 7 bases this season. The Patriots (25-26, fourth in the Eastern League’s Northeast Division) host the Hartford Yard Goats for a six-game series this week.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
COHEN WILBANKS — Georgia Gwinnett College (Jr., Cartersville HS) … went 3-for-7 in two NAIA World Series appearances in Lewiston, Idaho — a win over Tennessee Wesleyan and a loss to tournament winner Hope International. He also walked twice and had one sac bunt in the two games. The Grizzlies went 2-2 at the 10-team national championship tournament and finished the year with a 53-9 record. Wilbanks made 35 starts and appeared in 39 games in 2024. He finished with a .374 batting average in 115 official at-bats. He had one home run, 34 RBI, and a .454 on-base percentage.
