As local pro baseball players near the end of their 2026 campaigns, collegiate Fall sports are gearing up.


MLB / MiLB


MASON BARNETT — Las Vegas Aviators (MLB Athletics Triple-A affiliate; 5th-year pro; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … made a three-inning start and was the losing pitcher this past Saturday in a 9-7 loss at the El Paso Chihuahuas. Barnett allowed six earned runs on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout. The 25-year-old, who is 1-4 in 18 appearances with the MLB Athletics this season, is now 3-3 with a 5.65 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 13 starts for Las Vegas in 2026. The Aviators have secured a postseason playoff berth by winning the first-half West Division race in the Pacific Coast League. Las Vegas hosts six games this week with the Sacramento River Cats.


LOGAN MARTIN — Sacramento River Cats (San Francisco Giants Triple-A affiliate; 4th-year pro; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … was promoted on September 2 to the River Cats from the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The 25-year-old pitched 2-1/3 innings of relief this past Saturday with no decision. He allowed two earned runs on no hits, but three walks with two strikeouts. Earlier in the week, he worked 2-1/3 innings for Richmond against the Akron RubberDucks, where he allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk with one strikeout. This season in MiLB action, he is 6-1 in 27 appearances covering just over 61 innings. He has 69 strikeouts and a 4.09 ERA. Sacramento (76-59 overall; 34-29 second half) plays six games this week at the Las Vegas Aviators.


ANTHONY SEIGLER — Worcester Red Sox (MiLB; 9th-year pro; Cartersville HS) … went 4-for-20 this past week across five games at the Buffalo Bisons. He had two doubles, one triple, four walks, and four RBIs. The 27-year-old has split time this season between Worcester and the MLB Boston Red Sox. He is slashing .278/.397/.827 in 151 at-bats at Worcester, and .250/.331/.736 in 148 at-bats with Boston. Worcester plays six games this week at the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. 



FOOTBALL


CARLOS DEL RIO-WILSON — Marshall University (R-Sr., Cartersville HS) … completed 17 of 25 passes for 102 yards, and rushed for 30 yards on 13 attempts this past Saturday in the Thundering Herd’s 45-0 loss at 18th-ranked Penn State. Marshall (0-1) hosts Middle Tennessee on Saturday.


JD DeROCHE — University of the Cumberlands (So., Cass HS)  … made 10 tackles (two solo) and broke up one pass in the Patriots’ 50-27 home win this past Saturday at home over Bluefield University (VA). The University of the Cumberlands (2-0) welcomes Warner University (FL) on Saturday.


KAIL ELLIS — Auburn University (So., Cass HS) … was part of an offensive line rotation that helped produce 389 yards of total offense (130 rushing) in a 17-16 win over Baylor University this past Saturday in Atlanta. The Tigers (1-0) host Southern Miss on Saturday night.


TOKYO GORDON — Sam Houston State University (Sr., Adairsville HS) … made two tackles this past Saturday in the Bearkats’ 24-21 loss at Troy University. SHSU (0-1) hosts Tulsa University on Saturday.


DEVIN HENDERSON — Appalachian State University (Jr., Cass HS) … credited with two tackles this past Saturday in the Mountaineers’ 55-3 home win over Maine. App State (1-0) visits East Carolina on Saturday.


KEVIN HENDERSON — Appalachian State University (Jr., Cass HS) … made one tackle this past Saturday in a 55-3 victory over Maine. The Mountaineers (1-0) travel to East Carolina University on Saturday.


SHADRE HURST — University of Houston (5th year, Cartersville HS) … was a starter on the offensive line that helped produce 533 total yards this past Saturday in a 33-20 home win over Oregon State. Houston (1-0) hosts Southern University on Saturday night.


KHRISTIAN LANDO — Jacksonville State University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … rushed for 16 yards on four carries this past Saturday in the Gamecocks’ 49-7 home win over Eastern Kentucky. JSU (1-1) travels to Ohio University on Saturday.


BRADY MARCHESE — Auburn University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … saw his first collegiate action this past Saturday, but did not have a stat line in the Tigers’ 17-16 win over Baylor in Atlanta. Auburn (1-0) hosts Southern Miss on Saturday.


ZAY NALLS — Anderson University (So., Adairsville HS) … had one tackle and one pass break-up this past Saturday in a 21-14 home win over Keiser University (FL). The Trojans (1-1) visit UVA Wise on Saturday afternoon.


COLTON SANFORD — Centre College (Fr., Adairsville HS) … made one solo tackle this past Saturday in the Colonels’ 17-0 loss at Hanover College (IN). Centre (0-1) hosts LaGrange College on Saturday, September 19.


LUKE SURRETT — University of Richmond (Jr., Cartersville HS) … was part of the Spiders’ offensive line rotation that helped produce 300 yards of total offense this past Saturday in a 28-21 victory at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Richmond (2-0) visits N.C. State for a Friday night game.


CHASE TATUM — Kennesaw State University (Fr., Cass HS) … saw his first collegiate playing time last Thursday, but did not have a stat line in the Owls’ 47-0 home win over West Georgia. KSU (1-0) welcomes Georgia State University on Saturday night.


MALACHI TOLIVER — University of Georgia (Jr., Cartersville HS) … saw offensive line action this past Saturday in the Bulldogs’ 63-3 home win over Tennessee State. The Georgia offense rolled up 660 total yards. The 3rd-ranked Bulldogs (1-0) host Western Kentucky on Saturday.


SACOVIE WHITE-HELTON — University of Georgia (Jr., Cass HS) … caught three passes for 34 yards, returned one kick 18 yards, and had four punt returns for 59 yards during the Bulldogs’ 63-3 win over Tennessee State this past Saturday in Athens. Third-ranked Georgia (1-0) welcomes Western Kentucky on Saturday.


JORDYN WOODS — Ohio State University (So., Cartersville HS) … saw action, but did not have a stat line this past Saturday in the Buckeyes’ 56-3 home win over Ball State. Ohio State (1-0) plays at Texas on Saturday night.



SOCCER


HUNTER LIMBAUGH — LaGrange College (Fr., Woodland HS) … the defender saw 28 minutes of pitch time on September 1 in the Panthers’ 6-0 home win over Mississippi University for Women. LaGrange (2-0) plays at Huntingdon College on Wednesday and hosts William Peace University on Saturday.


LIBBY MORGAN — Thomas University (So., Woodland HS) … took one shot and logged 24 minutes this past Saturday in a 3-3 draw at home against New College of Florida. The Night Hawks (1-1-1) visit Xavier University (LA) on Thursday and 9th-ranked William Carey University on Saturday.


MALLORY NICKLAS — Northeastern State University (Cartersville HS) … the midfielder logged a total of 46 minutes in home matches last week against Oklahoma Christian and the University of Texas-Tyler. The Riverhawks lost 2-0 to Oklahoma Christian and played UT-Tyler to a scoreless draw. Northeastern State (2-1-1) hosts East Central University (OK) on Tuesday night and Missouri Southern on Sunday afternoon.


HALEY SKLBA — Point University (So., Cass HS) … the Skyhawks defender saw 52 minutes of pitch time this past Saturday in a 7-1 home win over Florida College. Point (3-1) welcomes Tennessee Southern on Thursday and Blue Mountain Christian (MS) on Saturday.


KATELYN THAYER — Reinhardt University (Fr., Woodland HS) … the Eagles’ defender logged 14 minutes of pitch time on September 1 in an 11-0 win at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Reinhardt (2-2-1) hosts Bluefield University on Saturday.



VOLLEYBALL


AILEE ENGLAND — Berry College (Jr., Cartersville HS) … in three matches at the Scranton, Pennsylvania Invitational, she played in 11 sets, totaling five aces and three digs. Berry (2-1) defeated 13th-ranked Tufts University and host University of Scranton, but lost to 18th-ranked Ithaca College. The Vikings play Asbury University (KY), College of Saint Benedict, and host Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky on Friday and Saturday.



CROSS COUNTRY


ADDISON BROWN — Truett McConnell University (Fr., Woodland HS) … placed 65th (18:22) last Friday at the Bruins XC Night Classic 4K hosted by Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. TMU finished 10th of 12 teams with Carson-Newman University winning the title. The Bears run on Friday night at the Hoka Nights of Thunder in Tallahassee, Florida.


TYLER JONES — University of West Georgia (Sr., Woodland HS) … finished 57th (16:49) of 161 competitors last Friday at the Jax State Foothills Invitational. The Wolves finished sixth of 17 teams. The host Gamecocks won the title, followed by Auburn and Samford. UWG runs at the Huntsville, Alabama Southern Showcase on Friday, September 18.


DANIELLE THAYER — Augusta University (Sr., Woodland HS) … finished 63rd (20:21) of 141 runners last Friday at the Eye Opener XC Meet in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Augusta finished seventh of 13 teams. South Carolina won the meet title, followed by Clemson and Liberty. The Jaguars head to Charlotte on Friday for the Queen City Invitational.
